I'll go for Italy. France did a great job so far though.

Great goal by Moutinho(sp?) btw. too bad Portugal didn't make it...

We got a little luck back from 2004, Awesome.

Posted by noikeee on May-29-2006 20:43:

thank you Daniel De Ridder

Italy did absolutely nothing all game but to sit back and defend. 15 minutes from the end Holland scores and they're out with this time no injury time goal to save them. Priceless

By the way, I'm 39th out of 7883 contestants in the uefa fantasy league thing, this after forgetting to change my squad from the last round to this one

There's a guy from my class who's even higher, 27th overall and the very first in this matchday!

Too bad this is the fantasy league with the shittiest prizes lately, winning the Lampard t-shirt for 1st prize would be nice but the usual playstation would rock more!

Posted by zoric on May-29-2006 21:21:

Too bad you're not getting the Playstation then

Posted by noikeee on Jun-01-2006 17:23:

yep, probably best goal of the competition so far

i'm surprised by Holland's quality so far, too bad i picked almost the entire team of France for fantasy football

wait, 1-2. really nice header

this game is really damn entertaining, did you see the 6 or 7 goal chances on the first 10 minutes!

Posted by noikeee on Jun-01-2006 18:46:

3-2 extratime.. congrats

Posted by The_G0dfather on Jun-01-2006 20:08:

how many did huntelaar score allready ?

Posted by The_G0dfather on Jun-01-2006 20:25:

Yeah would have like to see him being selected too...
But Van Basten gave a reasonable explanation i guess, sticking to his principles of 3 centre forwards i believe...

We're out of the tournament

Ukraine won over us with 5-4 on penalties.

Congrats to Ukraine, but this sucks

Posted by noikeee on Jun-01-2006 21:52:

congrats to Ukraine who i'm sure will have a lot of supporters in the final

Final in 40 minutes at Estdio do Bessa (Boavista's stadium). Squads:

Netherlands: Vermeer; Tiendalli, Vlaar, Luirink, Emanuelson; Aissati, De Zeeuw, Schaars; Hofs, Huntelaar, Castelen

Ukraine: Pyatov; Yarmash, Chygrynskiy, Yatsenko, Romanchuk; Mikhalik, Godin, Cheberyachko, Maksymov; Milevskiy, Fomin

half-time edit: 2-0, both goals by Huntelaar. Holland definitely looking better altho they were lucky as Ukraine hit the post twice. Fantastic environment in the stadium, with loud chants of "Portugal Ol" lol

Ukraine nearly scored a fantastic goal a couple minutes ago. Corner, crossed low to outside of the area, 3 players pretend to shoot but leave it run, the 4th hits it to the top corner! Didn't miss it by much, would have been something to watch replays of for a long long time.

Congrats...
Huntelaar will become a star.

Posted by zoric on Jun-04-2006 21:07:

A big congrats to Netherlands.

Huentlaar should've been included in the World Cup squad, Bad misstake.

Congrats, Holland are deserved winners of the cup. Didn't look candidates at all in the first two games, but how did things improve from then on! Knocked out the two major favourites (Italy and France) and won the final by 3-0.

Several players shone in this cup and should be looked at for the future. Starting from top scorer Klaas Jan Huntelaar of course. Also in Holland Nicky Hofs was brilliant in the semis and final, and the goalie Vermeer showed an outstanding talent for defending one-on-ones. Defensive midfielder De Zeeuw also played very well.

Milevskiy and Fomin shown up as Ukraine's future superstars, this duo of forwards work really well, the first has tons of technique. The french were better as a team than on individual talent, still Mavouba looked great on the group stage. Finally, the danish Thomas Kahlenberg and the serbian Stepanov impressed me as well.

I still managed to end 114th in the fantasy football thing, w00t. Should have picked Hofs or Huntelaar as captain for the final instead of Castelen tho.

And then to think Belgium played against ukraine to qualify for the championship and ukraine only got qualified in extra time

Posted by Elior on Jun-05-2006 08:07:

Congarts to Holland, they showed how happy and good football should be played imo. Castelen(sp?) with a great game, with two goals by the up and coming star Huntelaar, and several other players that impressed me.
Too disappointed though that Italy nor France got to the finals.
