I voted for Brazil. Think Italy might end up pretty far too, maybe Croatia in the last four or something. What's up with all the hopes high for Holland? I really dont think they gonna win, the team is just not strong enough, and Im really dissappointed Huntelaar is not going.. And the defense is not so strong, and the way they attack.. it's too slow. By the time they really wanna give it a try, the defense is ready to do what they have to do.

you mean the team that lost to Gerd Mller, Franz Beckenbar & co Or you mean the '90 team with Rijkaard and van Basten that lost to Klinsmann, Vller and Matthus?

I don't think Holland will win the world cup, but looking at the squad list it doesn't seem as shit as you're saying.

Yes, their attack + midfield look good and VDS is a quality goalie.
Dunno about the defence tho :/

Posted by Rockabye on May-18-2006 13:48:

Boularouhz is a superb defender!

Posted by d-miurge on May-18-2006 16:18:

It's absolutely impossible to foresee the winner, but my bet goes to France, because they are only runner-ups (they are good in this position) and they have the mentality to win this tournament, not this "oh shit not another world tournament, we need more sex with top models instead of playing football" like in Portugal 2004 or in Korea 2002.
And if you add the will of Zidane, Thuram and Barthez, you can have the good equation.
But, as I said first, there is a bunch of teams able to win, but I don't see Brazil this time.

I really hope that Mexico can do a great campaign, i'm not betting on them to win, but it would be great to have them at least in the semifinals, it's my second team.

Posted by Saka on May-19-2006 11:57:

Engand are joint second favourite?
I'm suprised.

Germany and Argentina FTW!!! the rest sucks!

attempt number 2...

I think holland have a great chance. I dont know much about there defenders. DOnt know much about AZ but they did very well i nthe dutch league. Barring a completely retarded system for qualifying for a champions league place they would be there next season.

There midfield and attack is excellent. THey seemed to of sorted out the trouble insdie there squad which they had for the past Touraments. TOpped there WC group who had czech republic and romanania.

40/1 for them to win and RVN to be top scorer, not a bad bet.

Doing very well in the dutch league isn't exactly something to brag about. However Holland does have a good squad but according to many experts they might be too young and pressure at these stages might get to them... hence so many dutch people pissed because players like seedorf and maakay didn't make it when they have been there before...

Didn't read the other posts but I think Brazil's team is just too good and they are capable of handling the pressure... but you know... you get this funny feeling that they won't end up winning it. I'd bet for any of the top european favorites, question is who. I'll wait for the friendlies and prior days before the WC to make up my mind lol

Well.... Brazil is great.. but, we beated Brasil last year, and thats shows that it can be done. Is going to be hard but i hope that Argentina is going to be on quarters at least.
About Mexico, well.. I'm sorry but i wouldnt bet for them, they simply need to practice before with harder teams, not with guatemala and el salvador.
And of course, Tevez face is awful.. I think that he can join with Ronaldhino and get a happy hour on a plastic surgeon

I can't see how anyone can beat Brazil but then again, they are playing in Europe..

I can't wait.
