Rickson Gracie has quite an impressive record, even thou none are in ufc and pride
398-0
11-0 in IE, VTJ, and pride.

Ralph 6-1
Renzo 10-6-1
Rodrigo 6-1-1 only loss to Bj Penn
Royler 5-3-1
Ryan 5-2

Kazushi Sakuraba the gracie hunter has befeated all but Rickson I believe.

I like the pride rules too, but i think that UFC has the better all around fighters by far.As much as i hate the Xzience everything, i do like the fact that UFC is becoming more accepted as a "mainstream" sport. The popularity and cable TV exposure will assure that the best fighters will most likely choose the UFC as the promotion to be with.
Pride will be the place where the older fighters try to squeeze in a couple more fights before withering away.

With all of the Spike tv programs,i will bet that in a few years there will be no more Pride, unless they adapt.Like mentioned before 3-12 fighters have no place in pay per views. It makes Pride look like a bingo hall operation.

I dont think you follow pride on a regular basis, because you are obviously way off. Pride has a pretty large pool of new and exciting fighters such as Gomi, Krazy Horse Charles Bennett and many others. UFC to me is more amatureish, and the only reason why its becoming so mainstream is because they were able to market it to people who dont know any better. Keep in mind that Pride afterall is a Japanese affair, and has nothing to do with how many payperviews they sell in the states, they will always sell out stadiums. You talk about UFC becoming more mainstream, in Japan it already is, its huge. Pride results are on the front page cover of newspapers, not in the sports section. Pride is also more recognized internationally, you have top teams from various countries, the best of the best going at it...not some joe fucking shmoe from hicksville tennessee

In Japan you can also buy soiled underwear from a vending machine.

I got into mma through not pride, not ufc but ucc

As much as Gracie did for martial arts I'm glad to see the arm-bender get pounded Now let's see Hughes fight Penn!

Posted by Abercrombie on May-31-2006 18:40:

Penn got his lucky break a couple of years ago on Hughes, but Penn's lost it since... don't think he has a chance.

I think he still has what it takes, GSP barely pulled that fight off against him. Penn's a good fighter, i just dont think he's as mentally focused as GSP.

fair enough...I'm not saying they are shit or anything, lol...just that the mystique that surrounded the family was gone long before Hughes smashed the shit out of Royce.

I have read/heard stuff about Rickson for years...it's claimed that he is, by far, the best in the family...yet never competed much. Some article claimed that people still go to train with him and leave *blown away* at even his current skill level...and I think he's pushing 50 by now. Some say he could still compete, if he chose to...

Sakuraba...sick...you can forgive his record when you see who his defeats have come against.

And lastly, it was curious to know that Kazushi Sakuraba (Pictures) was there in attendance at UFC 60. Now, I didnt watch every single nanosecond of the televised portion of the event, but the man is a fight-sport legend and I never saw him on TV. Zuffa goes out of its way to showcase B-level actors like David Spade and Michael Duncan Clark as well as that more-annoying-than-a-safety-pin-in-the-eye Kevin James (from King of Queens), but they didnt showcase Sakuraba? Come on. If they did, in fact, highlight Sakurabas attendance, forgive me and ignore this minor rant. I just happened to miss it.

anyone dissing Pride strikes me as someone who just follows UFC.

Pride attracts a lot of top fighters because, AFAIK, they get paid a more to fight over in Japan than they do here (one offs like what Royce got paid to fight Hughes, notwithstanding).

you want talent? Fedor would *dominate* any heavyweight in UFC, for e.g.

btw...BAS RUTTEN IS BACK! crazy...

not dissing pride, i just wish it was more accessible.
I find alot of fights to be on the ground with nothing going on.I wish the refs would stand em back up.
Now that i have the fight networks though, i have to admit it is great to have all the older pride and k1 events

Why would he fight penn, penns not next inline for a belt shot, St Pierre has more then proved himself worthy for a rematch. And even thou I would love to see Hughs erase his loss to penn, I want to see St Pierre Bring the belt to canada. Second since Newton.

Sakuraba is amazing, he being skill to the table, aswell as showman ship *walking out masked with 2 other guys to the ring then pulls his off to get the crowd going* he's 19-9-1 but IMO has 1 of the best fight cards ever. Loosing to guys like Arona, Silva, Noguera, Cropcop, and vochanchin. He rules the ground game, but it seems against tuffer over powering opponents he doesnt hold up so well ie silva beating him all 3 times by tko. but he did prove me wrong by stopping Belfort, jackson, vernon white ect, that suprised me big time.

Wow crazy Bas coming back to fight Kimo lol, I hope he still drags out the big cross lol. One of my fav fights was kimo and Royce Gracie, Gracie won but couldn't continue because he broke his arm or hand I forget exact details. I woulda loved to seen his comback vs Frank Shamrock, I love watching Frank fight, not pancrase crap(hope I dont offend anyone lol, just not my cup of tea)

As for the stoppage of the fight again it was a good stoppage, but in no way is gracie a pussy, he fought Sakuraba something dumb like 8 rounds, and about 3 rounds on a broken ankle and then finally his corner thru in the towel, what a great fight that was, even thou in slow motion u see sakuraba tap out, but the ref missed it gracie let up and Sakuraba pulled out, that would be a fight I would like to see again.

Posted by MarkT on Jun-01-2006 20:06:

^^ haha... forgot about Kimo's cross...that dude is nuts. Should at least be an interesting fight. Early prediction...Bas beats the shit out of him

I'm looking forward to UFC 61...Tito is going to give Shamrock a beating (and hopefully shut his mouth for good).

More interesting will be round 2 of the Pride Absolute tournament...when the hell do they announce the matchups? Fedor has promised to fight the winner since he had to withdraw due to injury.

Hmmmm...fighitng Fedor...I'm not sure that should be considered a "reward" for winning the tournament...more like a punishment, lol.

i want to see Joe Rogan fight.

Evidently fear is definely a factor.

Kimo vs. Gracie. One of my favorite fights ever. Gracie got whipped. If it wasn't for Gracie holding to Kimo's ponytail I'm fairly certain Kimo would have taken it.

Posted by MarkT on Jun-01-2006 20:14:

lol...that would be great...apparently he does train.

it would be fun to see the man with the big mouth put on the gloves, lol.

I know there's been lame celebrity boxing stuff...but can celebrity UFC really be that far away? Some jurisdiction will sanction it.

and you *know* there are some celebs who would just love to be able to smack the shit out of each other

Ya Fedor is amazing, I would love to see him square off with Arlovski or Sylvia, see if those 2 could solve him, because no 1 in pride can.

Oh ya another thing I LOVE THE OPENING of pride, they play the music call out all the fighters ect and they are all standing on huge platforms at once, UFC has crappy opening.

Ya I think Bas Finnishes him fast.

Tito will Ground and pound Shamrock first round bad, but last fight Tito looked lost in the last 2 rounds, I honestly woulda given the fight to Forest but too tuff to do that on Titos come back fight. He seemed like he gassed after the first round.

I actually read a rumour somewhere I'll look for it, about Joe Rogan is to fight Wesley Snipes. Now if I'm not mistaken Joe has done martial arts most his life, hes a black belt maybe 2nd degree in karate and trains bjj.

Rogan apparently works out with the Milletage(sic) crew.

i always like how hes so cold, calculating, and relentless in his fights...scares me sometimes

Posted by Sweeper on Jun-02-2006 12:39:

You can tell that Joe Rogan knows what hes talking about because, when the fight is on and there is a close submission the guy always asks ok what does he have to do to get out of this. Joe Rogan doesn't say "hit him in the face hard and he will let go" He is always quick to give 1 or 2 possible escapes which goes to show he is versed in BJJ.
