pretty fun night on Friday. Playing the Reed Room was a fun way to start the night. Thanks to all who came out early.
On to the big guys...
I was all over the place so I didn't really get a chance to really listen to Satoshi's set enough to form an opinion. He played a lot of bangers, and I flipped out when I heard him drop Chab - You and Me. Don't think I have ever heard that one out at a club before. Stayed til about 4:30 or so...Sasha played solidly while I was there.
headed over to Love late night and Three and Damian were killing it til about 5:30 or so when we left to go home for the night. Good to see a lot of the familiar faces and meet some new ones as well.
also, is it me or was the sound on the main floor horrendous? There were a few times throughout the night where I could have sworn Satoshi and Sasha were wrecking mixes, only to change position in the club and realize my ears were catching bad sound delays from all over the place.

i can't believe none of you are mentioning Xpander lol.... that was such a fucking moment.
i also can't believe the luke warm and positive lavelle comments. this man cannot dj. he cannot mix, he cannot maintain a vibe, he trainwrecks again and again, he stops the music, and he plays some really bad sounds and horrendous vocals!! awful. bad time slot for him. he should have opened, satoshi should have had the main guest slot and that would have been absolutely great, and sasha should have come back BEFORE 5... that is too damn late. and he should have ended at 7 30 like he has before...not 7. this was closing night, wtf..
i still think he was insanely hard and the two hours at the end were still really, really good.
saw diddy come in from the side door where everyone smokes and right after that sasha walked passed us, he didnt look too happy
Overall, I had a good time. Wasnt as good as I expected considering it was the closing party. I wouldnt have minded Lavelles set if it wasnt so fucing long! He was doing what he was suppose to do, that is build up for sashas last hours but he was building to dam long and I thought I heard a few train wrecks but wasnt really paying close attention. I think he plays a lot differently when hes headlining. It was definitely my worst time at Crobar but comparing Different nights at Crobar is like comparing different times you had sex There are good times and ok time but in the end its still sex. I got an hour of it on video and it looked more fun on video than I remembered it being haha. In the last two hours when sasha was on, I remembered thinking to myself, this is why I came all the way down here!.. It was worth the trip from MA.

anyone notice the people that tried to dance on the stage in front of the booth? the best was the kid in the white shirt that went up not once, twice, but three times and got das boot the third time by the bouncer. what a dumbass.
Found this "review" thread of the event in the West Coast boards. Lots of ripping on the shirtless guidos, who I somehow managed to avoid all night. The pics are priceless

Anyone know the name of one of the tracks that Satoshi spun towards the end of his set that had robot-esque vocals that said "_______ ... TE-LE-VISION... POOOOWER!"
I know that's not very specific at all but the track was hot so I figuire I'd give it a shot asking.

| Originally posted by umes23 yeah well the point is it's a much bigger deal for someone who goes to sasha gigs regularly over the years to hear that song at this time from him... it's certainly the first time he has busted out xpander in non-cowpander form in ages. i really wouldn't wanna hear it from howells or warren to be honest, that would be sort of blah for me. it's sasha's signature late 90s era classic, and it's awesome to hear sasha drop it in 2006. |
I've been to plenty of Sasha gigs myself too....
maybe that someone was me, since it was the first time i heard it. i thought he used ableton to take the main synth of xpander and drop it on a new bassline actually.. i'd agree with rather hearing the original, perhaps on a harder kickdrum.
only time I've ever heard the original mix of xpander in a club was at avalon back in 2003 for John Debo's birthday set.

Managed not to get any shots of guidos or random crackies. There's a nice pic of Satoshi giving a thumbs up courtesy of Jay =)
