To back up Phortastic, I've been using my Mac now for about 2 years and I am very demanding at times on its resources and I can honestly say in 2 years it has crash somewhere between 3-6 times. Two years. It is the programs that will sometimes crash as he pointed out. That being said, I am sure it doesn't happen to the frequency where it is a problem, or else Ableton wouldn't exist because it would then clearly be too unstable for use. I don't know why in such a forward thinking niche of music people are so against djs evolving their craft.

Well I'm quite liking this mix, despite cries that it's boring and minimal and too "intelligent". I like the mixing, the edits (which were probably made by Sasha's Ableton Edit Team haha), the flow, and the tracks are nice. They aren't necessarily stand-out huge tracks, but they have subtle melodies, and fairly fat beats which would sound much larger if heard live. The concept is cool, albeit hard to implement, and the recovery from the Ableton crash was quick.
All in all I'll give it a sterling recommendation
Am I the only one who thinks its fucking pathetic they are selling this CD for $25 a pop with such an obvious and ridiculous error? I am all for Ableton in the studio, but I don't think its ready to stand on its own yet. I for one will stick to the CDJ + Ableton combo, cuz you just never know as Sasha found out...but at the end of the day its still $25 x 10,000. Fucked up if you ask me, the least they could've done is edited the intro bit...

I guess, but then again why spend $25 on something that has a big, awful flaw in it? If I had spent money on it I would definately want a refund...I think this just proves Ableton is not ready to stand on its own. Like I said I'm all for it for layering shit and engineering mixes but for a live thing its clearly just not reliable enough...

Well, I'm glad you're satisfied. I guess the crash does add a "unique" element to this lackluster compilation

The only thing I didnt like was how the tracklist was wrong and that it wasnt printed on the cd, it as just a sticker on the wrapper. So now I got this tracklist taped to the back of the cd. Its kinda ghetto.

| Originally posted by Clovis86 To me if they had not included that, it would have defeated the purpose of the whole thing. Its raw, its jut what happened. Who knew it would fuck up while recording the CD of all times. And you get the added bonus of the next 2 tracks after the fuckup being mixed on CDJ ( which is hard to tell if you werent there) |
I haven't had time to listen to it yet, but I am really looking forward to it as a fan of Sasha.. really dissappointing if it has a fuck-up as you guys a mentioning =S

| Originally posted by Max Thomson I agree it would have defeated the purpose, and fuck ups do happen, but I guess I just can't get beyond the unprofessional nature of this thing. I mean, Sasha and co are going to sit back and make $250,000 off of a really damaged recording. I suppose it makes it a bit of a collector's item, but to me that fuck up defeats the purpose of a mix CD, especially one you pay $25 for! Another thing...when that track off the CDJ is mixed in, the levels seemed to be way off...I don't know the whole thing just seems pretty unprofessional to me. Just my 2c |
If it was a studio mix, then yeah, I'd say take Sasha to the cleaners for making people (which BTW, he didn't force anyone to buy this CD) spend the money on a pile of crap.
But this is a LIVE CD. I for one know that Live CDs are probably going to have a few errors or mistakes in them. That's why I'm buying it. It's a representation of a DJ in their raw, truest form, mistakes and all. I would have been furious if I found out Sasha & Co. edited and messed with it to remove any blemishes. I think he's brilliant, but I've gathered that a lot of users on here aren't interested in intelligence or beauty. They just want the quick fixes or the most popular bangers out at that moment.
Oh...and this compilation was superb!
I must say i was really looking forward to listening to this being a fan of Sasha's "Airdrawndagger" and "Involver". However after listening to this avalon cd- i was sorely disappointed. Talk about monotonous. The whole thing sounded nearly the same
.
I'm not trying to take Sasha to the "cleaners" by any means...I just think it says a lot about Ableton and where the technology is at. People are SO quick to jump on the Ableton bandwagon and kind of lose perspective on what a DJ set should be. In my eyes, a set is about making choices in which records you play, and not jam packing your set with effects and loops and shit that really don't add anything...I mean does he honestly need to use the ping pong delay every 30 seconds? I use Ableton to engineer DJ mixes and produce, but I think this recording is PROOF that the technology simply is not there.
I've heard of Ableton going out on Sasha at least 5 times now, and I just think its fucked up hes talking it up on the Apple website saying how he "puts his career on it" and how stable it is. Then, when he records the most important thing hes done in the past year, Ableton fucks up! In a way, I guess it is his fault a bit, I mean yeah he is an artist and doing the best he can with the latest technology and so much of it is really great, I just don't think the technology is ready. Couple that with the fact the music isn't really anything special (almost everything is from 2005!) and I think its safe to say Sasha should not walk away with a $250,000 check. Period.

I just can't agree with you there...cd skips DO happen, but from working with Live and Pro Tools on PCs and Macs, theres no way I can say that they are just as stable as CDJs. I'm really not trying to hate on Sasha here, but I think an error like that on such a profitable CD is just unacceptable.

I can't understand why people are so quick to regard Ableton as unstable due to one recorded fuck up and a handful of other fuck ups that they're aware of. Consider the amount of times records have skipped, vinyls damaged yet accidentally played out, cds scratched, cdjs skipped, someone accidentally hits the eject button on a cdj, the list can go on indefinitely.
No particular medium will be perfect, and to demand as much is ludicrous. I've been to a few Ableton shows and I've never heard it shit out, and I'm willing to take my chances. I'd also take my chances if I knew how to work Ableton to use it in a live environment as I see it as no more or less ineffectual as vinyl or cds.
Bought it today.. I'm definitely not upset.. this is a really chill, laid back mix.
This is the kinda stuff I like to listen to while I study and the likes.
