I think it goes without saying that Stern is considered to be the best commish in any sport in the history. He's actually a pretty smart dude.

I like listening to him, he's sometimes controversial and he has a good funny wit about him. Football is without question the most popular U.S. sport but Paul is just too quiet to be considered a great leader. The sport almost sells itself. Baseball... lol.. that's where the travesty is.

Even though Tags is gone, and there is a vacancy for best sports commish, Stern gets it by default, but he's still not all he's cut up to be.

Can I ask this: if he's such a great commish, then why did he let the west get out of control. The west is obviously the dominant conference. Or do you think he has no control over that? But we all know if you're commish you can make things happen. The man has his hand in almost everything in the nba anyway, there's no reason why he couldn't have made a difference in the east and west.

USA basketball exhibition vs. Puerto Rico on right now. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new "team" approach with role players like Bruce Bowen, Brad Miller, etc. will do vs. throwing a bunch of Stephon Marbury's together at the last minute.

but by using the same logic, Tags isn't a good commish cuz he let the NFC be the stronger conference for a number of years since they won the super bowl from 1989-1997 under his watch

seriously, you cannot blame David Stern for that. In reality, the West was always dominant since the early 90s, but the East always looked good , because the Bulls kept winning championships at the end. Also, certain trades made the West a lot better by default, such as Chris Webber going from the Bullets to Kings, Shaq going from Orlando to LA, Charlotte trading away Kobe to the Lakers for scrubs, and so on ....

here are some scenarios of previous draft picks since 1990:

1990- new jersey picks derrick coleman first in the draft, and seattle picks gary payton second. gary payton could have went to the east.

1991- Dikemebe Mutombo is picked 4th by denver, while charlotte and new jersey passed him up. they pick up larry johnson and billy owens respectively.

1992- a good draft by the East, as they got Shaq and Alonzo the first 2 picks, however, they let Robery Horry slip too far, and allow Houston to draft him. washington, milwaukee, philadelphia, and atlanta had chances.

1993- a balanced draft.

1994- Milwaukee makes the mistake by drafting Glenn Robinson before Jason Kidd. Kidd goes to Dallas. East allows Lakers to draft Eddie Jones 10th in the draft.

1995- crash and burn. philly gets jerry stackhouse, and washington gets rasheed wallace. minnesota takes advantage, and gets kevin garnett. you all know what happened next.

1996- The East actually did things right, as they got AI, andRay Allen Steve Nash goes to Phoenix, and everyone thought he was going to be a bust, and all the good things he did in the NCAA tournament was a fluke for santa clara.

1997- a balanced draft

1998- Milwaukee trades away Dirk Nowitzki. Rashard Lewis picks high schooler Rashard Lewis in the 2nd round.

moving on .....

2002- Amare Stoudemire picked 9th in the draft. 3 east teams had the chance to pick him, but chose jay williams, dajuan wagner, and nene hilario

2003 - The East's best draft, as Lebron, Wade, Bosh, and Hinrich are all chosen by East teams. However, many teams made the mistake and allow Josh Howard to go too deep in to the draft, and Dallas steals him.

2004- The East's win again with this draft, getting Emeka Okafor, Dwight Howard, Ben Gordon, and Andre Igoudala

2005 - Widely considered a weak draft.

2006 - Too early to tell who won out on this draft night, but i think the biggest steal of the draft was Shannon Brown going to Cleveland. He was picked 25th in the draft, and I think he is going to play a major role for the Cavs next year. This guy is versatile, has a decent jumper, plays great defense, and was with a great teacher Tom Izzo for 3 years.

now that is something i disagree about with the NBA. do the non-playoff teams have to cross their fingers on where they get placed?
