There was a pro-Palestinian rally outside my building today cause it's right across from the Israeli mission, so they stuck them on the other side of the street so they wouldn't bother people coming out of there. I intern at the United Nations Association of the USA & the Business Council of the US 2x a week and the perk is I get a UN pass... thinking about going to the cafeteria and hitting up Kofi for lunch

They had some rally against the US support of Israel on the 2nd at Union Square that we passed in a cab. We caught the light on 14th and Broadway and were treated to groups of men yelling in each other's faces, which I absolutely loved because it's representative of the whole situation: a lot of talk, with no regard for what anyone else has to say.

That's deep.

But if you think it hasn't extended beyond religion by now, you are mistaken...

thing is in Lebanon there are Christians and Muslims, and some others

Hezbollah are muslims, a lot of them are not even real lebanese
they are Palestinians that were deported to lebanon cause the conflict with israel and palestine, it was still happening back then...
back in the days, egypt, jordany, syria, and irak and iran i think, made war against israel... lebanon wasn't involved
it was in 1967 i think
the war lasted for a couple of days and after that, all the arab countries FORCED lebanon to give the south part of their land to people who still wanted to fight Israel... these people are now Hezbollah and thats why Israel occupied south lebanon for a while.

as you all know by now, hezbollah is backed by syria and iran.

in early 80's, Hezbollah created a civil war between christians and muslims in Lebanon for religious and power reasons. thats when syria took over lebanon and controlled its government until day.

When they killed the old lebanese prime minister Rafic Hariri because he wanted Syria out of the country, the UN and all that forced them out of lebanon... The real lebanese people were happy about that but the only way we can take over our country back is by getting rid of Hezbolllah. Problem is their army supplies (backed by syria and iran) are much stronger than the lebanese military.
Thats why we can't do much about it.

Today Hezbollah kidnaped 2 israelis solders killed a few others to exchange them for hezbollah prisonners. They weren't expecting a respond like that from israel. Hezbollah action wasn'T planned by the lebanese gorvernement, it was a decision made by nasrallah (puppet of syria and iran).

Israel is getting rid of hezbollah, but they are not doing it pretty nicely for now... they are demolishing the entire country, killing civilians instead of looking for precise hezbollah targets.

That might be the best solution. It wasn't such a great idea to make a jewish state surrounded by all muslim states. Those countires who made that decision after WWII didn't think very well.

In order to save 3 soldiers there are over 250+ dead, that doesn't look very good. Ill take the lives of 3 over 250 any day

"Save the lives" ? Heh. . They were just looking for an excuse to make the first move, and what better way than an Ultimatum. Heck, we did it with Iraq: "Saddam can either leave the contry, or we'll make the first move."

On a bit of a side note, I really think we need to just chill. Bush seems to be planting some counterproductive seeds before he leaves office. ... or maybe it's the real mastermind behind all this: Chaney! Muahahahahahaha!

Don't think they knew about this or the US would have be prepared to airlift ciizens faster. Also, after hearing what W said to Pootie-Poot I continue to question his mental abilities

Being prepared for a disaster even with tons of advance knowledge has never been the US's strong suit.

the decision was made way before wwII (see: the bible and its corollary, the balfour declaration).

As far as I knew, Palestinians inhabited the area for the longest, while Jews were more of a nomadic, migrant, tribal people for years and years, no?

Wasn't it only because of US Aid that Israel even officially became Israel?

Israeli children sends gifts to Lebanese children:

Lebanese children receive them:

Someone just emailed this to me. Pretty fucked up. The pictures speak for themselves.

like most nationalistic projects, the idea of a "palestinian" as a discrete citizen of contiguous nation didn't exist prior to the 19th century. that being said, the forebears of the palestinians today did loosely occupy the general area -- an area which incidentally ranges from syria to saudi arabia. if claims are made, then these people seem to have a greater sway over land titles than jews who mostly fled europe and arrived post-1948.

if you want to read a book that will blow apart everything you've ever thought about nationalism or historical land claims, read Benedict Anderson's "Imagined Communities" [Verso].

the u.s. was one of many key players involved in the creation of israel, countries which coordinated a near-unanimous and immediate recognition of the fledgling state. as i mentioned above, the balfour declaration of 1917 essentially promised england's full support for the zionist project in palestine. agreements and movements, both secret and non-, dating back to wwI, laid the groundwork for what the middle east would look like in the years to come [see: the sykes-picot agreement, the creation of trans-jordan, etc.].

I once heard that the Allies were kicking around the idea of placing Israel in Eastern Siberia, crazy idea right?

Anyhow,

To my understanding Palestinians were more nomadic

Done because he just didnt like them.

On the other hand I think it would do some good to eradicate the problem. If you cant find the root, take out the tree(s).

Is there anyway out of this problem? A real solution I mean, will diplomacy be enough?

Do you go to school? Have you ever taken a history class? This shit has been going on for a LONG time - there are no solutions. At this point its just a part of the culture now.

so if you were around in the 1940s, would you like to have been eradicated as part of the "final solution" to the "root of the problem"?
