Unfortunately no pictures were taken...because Karina and Miluska looked incredibly delicious. As far as review goes...
Ooooooooooooooh Yeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaa! I was expecting an above average night, but it ended up being so enjoyable that I actually forgot that I was at TIL. We were slightly worried about not getting in, but there were no hassles at the door thankfully. We got in around 11:30ish and there were quite a few things that caught my attention. Because of the new smoking laws, they added a back area behind the bar which looked pretty nice and classy considering it was only added 5 weeks ago. They also had some streamers and decorations above the pillars which was also something refreshing. But the most intriguing add-on to the venue that I noticed was the new lighting system. The place is definately shaping up to be an afterhours...they just need to keep it open longer! The crowd was pretty to look at; beautiful faces every direction you turn in. I also noticed the downgrading of posers and classy folk. The old system soundbar regulars keep populating that place which is awesome. The AC was keeping me cool all night, but it was hot at times. Most of the night we always had enough room to dance except for an hour or so, but we worked around that. WTF...the Dirty Clowns came, saw, and destroyed the dancefloor. Surprise appearances everywhere! There were 5 of us including our female harlequin. Our circle of ridiculousness owned FRC! It's too bad the place had to close at 4:30...VERY disappointing since I had heard that the party would go on until 6 am. Bah...we continued our festivites somewhere else.
I caught about 40 minutes of Brad Copeland's set. Always a pleasure to hear this man open up for a headliner. I spotted a slight trainwreck, but no one else seemed to. He played some electro in there with a hint of mainstream and a doseage of progressive house to flow into the next set. Luke Fair came on at 12:30 and Karina and I dashed up to the front. We were expecting Luke to start off with our 'monkey dancing in the tree' song, but he obviously wasn't going to play a year old tune hehe. I tried comparing his set with his last one at system, but I couldn't help remembering anything. I do know that I had a much more enjoyable time this time around....wait...that's an understatement. I had a BLAST. Luke Fair...damn...his mixing abilites were impressive. Every track seemed to flow so rich and creamy. He played alot of progressive house which was expected, but he surprised me with some electro and tech mixed in there. I was having such an awesome time that I did not pay attention to alot of the tracks...I did manage to trainspot a few awesome tunes:
Full Blown - Strip Poker (Asles Acid Dub Mix)
Kurd Maverick - The Rub (Dub Mix)
but the most memorable tune was heard at the peak of his set around 3:30 am...
Thomas Schumacher - Heat It Up!!!
It's like that? Yeah!
It's like that? Yeah!
It's like that? Yeah!
It's like that....So heat it up!!
*starts dancing to relive to moment*
Booya! His last 30 minutes were a bit too melancholy for me. He ended at 4:30 with one hell of a killer track. If anyone knows the ID please let me know!
The TA turnout wasn't as great as I expected, but it was a more than a pleasure to see Sean Cassidy (thx once again!!), Max, Ben, Graham (your cousin too), Chris, Tara, Amanda, Dan + Chris, Ryan, Frank, and of course my family. To everyone else...you guys missed out on one of the best parties at TIL. I speak in total SERIOUSNESS. ![]()
yes there were a lot of pretty faces to look at. also nice seeing Ben, meeting Max and running into Frank on the way out. its been awhile bro, we need to go out next weekend for sure.
i really, really liked what luke was playing, especially after the 2:30 am mark, but unfortunately i had to leave at 3:45 cos i was too tired and had a monster of a headache (that was STILL there when i woke up at 2 this afternoon!!!). he played that "like this" track which i love. anyways, he was great, wished i could have stayed later, but i'm sure there will be a next time.
One of my favourite TIL nights. Brad & Luke were awesome, great tracks and impeccible mixing. Such a treat to hear Luke again, he's still got that very structured sound but there's more emphasis on some heavier basslines, almost a dirty feel at times. Just proves my theory that everyone these days is sounding a li'l bit like Lawler.
Sad to see the night closed off earlier than expected but hopefully the great turnout will convince TIL to bring back this homegrown star soon.
