New prices are just a fucking jock. 2 for a 320kbps, lol

I used to buy about 40/50 digital tunes a month but now, I just want to download bittorent or any p2p and leech everything I like.

Look at dance-tunes, they do a lot of effort on prices. They are now something like 4 times cheaper than beatport and others digital shops. Too bad they are selling only trance and hardstyle :/

edit : I just remember , didn't they increase prices 1 or 2 years ago because of currencies? And they said they weren't going to change prices again

Posted by Freak on Aug-09-2006 16:02:

It was shite before, and now it is shite AND slow.

And it STILL blocks my downloads every single bloody time.

As for 1.49/1.99/2.49 a track for a fecking 320 mp3? Well they can just kiss my ass. I will go somewhere else that charges in $. What a rip off!

Bunch of arse- hope they go bust overnight.

Welcome To Beatport
Dear Valued Customers,

We appreciate your continued support and wanted to take the time to inform you about the price changes here at Beatport. As a global site - our company is forced to keep tabs on international changes in currency exchange rates and the influence of our international partners. In response to these trends, we must make every effort to strike a balance between the needs of our label partners and that of our customers. If Beatport is to continue providing our customers with the best new tracks from all over the world, we must take a global position in regards to pricing structure. The new pricing structure is as follows:

Exclusive Promos - $2.49
New Releases - $1.99
Back Catalog - $1.49

Aug 5, 2005.

The new prices aren't really a joke, it's what every other download site in the UK have been charging all along because otherwise the artists and labels get fuck all. Don't get me wrong, I loved the cheapness of Beatport and got everything from there before, but this doesn't surprise me at all. I know a lot of labels were thinking of (and some actually did) leave Beatport because their low prices meant that even though they did a lot of sales, it wasn't worth having their tracks on there.

On the Trackitdown front, they've got a stack of new servers in the last couple of weeks and now the site's MUCH faster (yes, it was a right pain in the arse before) and I know that they're doing more to improve it.

Obviously it's all down to what you prefer using, but personally I'll be saying goodbye to Beatport now... I don't see anything that it's got over any of the other sites anymore.

this is kinda unrelated but i just noticed a record label on there called "Add2Basket Records"

beatport just lost my business

I've never bought from beatport before, so I have a noobish question. How do you tell whether the track is a 320 or wav? Say like Fable - Above how can I tell? Thanks.

Trackitdown have just about every release available as a wav without that annoying "wav handling charge"... you can select to get the wav instead of the a 320k mp3 when you review your basket before the checkout.

Admittdly for people in the US they could well be cheaper from Beatport, but they're going to be a lot cheaper for people in the UK and Europe now that Beatport have changed their prices.

yes they do have an extra wav handling charge of $1 US per track and their prices are higher than beatport

Hmmn *hugs box of vinyl*

Seriously tho, it sounds like they are gonna lose a heap of you guys from this. they should really have beta tested the site and put it up in 24 hrs initially. Unhappy customers will always look elsewhere.

Posted by skip on Aug-10-2006 10:03:

i just decided that i'm so pissed off that i emailed them and told them what they did wrong. i suggest everyone else to do the same.

Are they not showing the track times anymore? I don't see it.

I think the biggest gripes are over the pricing, which beta testing wouldn't have fixed... it's something they had to do to stop them losing client labels.

Ah ok, I see how it all lines up obviously Beatport's "wav handling charge" is the same thing as TID just having different prices lol (I'm not feeling like the brightest student in the class today, had a very long day at work...)

hey no prob bro! but if you are in europe... you might want to consider track it down with the exchange rate in europe

Posted by DigDeep on Aug-11-2006 05:41:

I personally like everything they have done with it so far, with the exception of not displaying the track length (but then again, that has never been a factor when purchasing a track for me before).

I also noticed, when checking out - you can now choose the bitrate quality for individual tracks. This is a great feature when you are purchasing a shitload of tracks, and want to pick and choose which one you want to spend the extra $$$$ to download in WAV.

However, the biggest thing I have noticed since they have returned has been their lacking in quality in terms of music. I used to pick up on average close to 5 or 6 tracks PER DAY, and in the past week - I have only found 4 tracks worth downloading. I hope this is just a dry spell in quality, or the fact that they are spending more time adjusting to the new software.

Posted by Wisnia on Aug-13-2006 17:07:

I baught a track and i get the following error when i try to download the file : "The file you requested was not found. Please contact [email protected]".

I emailed them about three days ago and this is the reply i got:
"Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience. We are aware of this issue and our engineers are working diligently to resolve the problem, hopefully within the next 6 to 8 hours. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your patience in this matter."

I want my damn music

Posted by Clovis on Aug-14-2006 23:38:

They are thoroughly fucked. For some reason alot of new releases are getting tagged as released in 1999, putting them at the back of their section. Those seem to be the same tracks you can buy but not download, cause you get the above message^^

Hopefully they get these issues sorted quick...I've been using beatport for awhile now and would not like to switch.

Posted by RJT on Aug-14-2006 23:41:

I'm kind of amazed at a lot of the issues folks are having, I'm having relatively few, if any at all.

Posted by Spirit5 on Aug-14-2006 23:45:

I don't even want to take a chance buying anything from them until they have all of those issues sorted out. I see "Divine" by Emrecan Cakir is one of those "1999" tracks. Don't think that track is that old, although it wasn't one that was just made a few months ago. I think it might be a year or two old, and was just released on Toes In The Sand Digital.
