The E crazy has worn down so to speak and it is no where near as popular as it was back then when it took off. I would say your chances of a sucessful pary eg. make money for the charity is below zero unfortunately. We charged $20. Good luck to you my friend but it is a tough go in this town. |
party with the prisoners.
why not?

I drove from Waterloo to Kingston for Astral Projection. The party lost thousands of dollars. Don't do it.
It can be a fun time but kingston can't support big names yet.
anyone remember the forums on www.kingstonraves.com or something back then. they had that club on princess street that was near the 7-11. that's where astral projection played no?
anyway, they only way i could see a big name come and not have a deficit is through some sort of charity event.
ie. tiesto and dance4life.com.
since dance4life is doing stuff through school's throughout the school anyway.

oh yea Goatface was at the Portsmouth Harbour. Great Venue. Apparently they have a 2000 person capacity in the lower level there.
hmmmmmm.....
the owner DOES love us for the party we threw at this place in march. maybe we can throw an even BIGGER one.

Bring in PVD!!! If you can do that, the masses would come,,, Guaranteed!!!
Good luck with whatever you arrange... nice to see someone trying outside of the major cities...
~peace
i would definately make the trip out there. When i was in the army reserves i spent the summer in kingston at the CF base there is a nice city. Make it an awesome party and ppl will come.
If it were Ferry...I'd be there.

but it was the ONLY place to go where you could hear ANY EDM.
i'm going to meet with the commitee during frosh week probably and discuss locations and performers for the year. we'll probably have 2 events. one in november and one in march. the one in march is usually a formal but everyone get crunked and its the best time.
i have a bunch of pics. someone tell me how to post them on here and i'll post em. (i know its kinda shit that i don't know how to do this yet, but its the truth)
UPDATE: There is a strong possibility that tiesto will come to kingston. currentl in talks.
Q: Will you make the trip?
"Currently in talks" and "strong possibility" are two very different things.
As soon as Primetime finds out Kingston's lack of population, scene, distance from many major cities, and lack of a proper "Tiesto-sized" venue for North America standards I'm sure the 'talks' you're having will be off in seconds. Also, I'd be very interested to know what sort of references a club in Kingston can provide a booking agency like Primetime to work from.

I'd follow the advise of those who have told you it won't work. If you don't want to lose a ton of money..start small. You won't create a scene in Kingston by throwing one big event. Give the small mass who do support the scene something small to enjoy and see where it takes you.
You won't get the mass if you don't have a big name and people are not going to travel from this area or Montreal to see a show unless it is someone that has never been to their city, will never play in their city or because they love Kingston so much that they plan to make a weekend of it (why us TO kids will travel to Montreal and vice versa) That's doesn't leave you with a long list of talent to draw from, if any. You may get a few hard core fans who would travel anywhere to see a more mainstream DJ such as Tiesto, PVD or Ferry but not enough to fill a stadium, at ticket prices that would give you a decent ROI.
If the scenes in Toronto and Montreal were hurting I'd say this idea would be better timed but that ain't the case. With all the shows we have to choose from in Toronto it doesn't make sense to travel to a less exciting city (not an insult here...I have friends who went to Queens and I had a lot of great nights out there)for a show that could very well be on our doorstep the next week.

bring Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Billy Ray Cyrus, Dolly Parton, Faith Hill or Shania Twain if you want a good turn out.
Keep in mind that there are lots of events going on in montreal and toronto all the time so unless you have something unique and new it is not likely that many people will want to drive that far.
