the least they could have done was to hire a bum to count them

hey they're dishing out $384,000 this year for those 4 noise enforcement officers to hand out fines .. maybe they could hire some bums, at least they're already on the streets

Ok. So I am stood in line at Tim Hortons at King and Victoria this morning and a bum comes in and starts asking people to buy him a coffee.

He asked about 4 people who all ignored him and turned their backs until I turned around and said 'I'll buy you one'.

I got 2 medium regulars and passed him one. He thanked me and I continued to my office.

Would you have bought him a coffee?

I have bought a homeless person a coffee b4, but it's the twitchin crack heads you gotta watch for - never ever open your purse in front of them! they will take it without the guilt past expereince when I first started university at Ryerson! You are such a sweet gurl Rachel! I am so happy to have met you!!! xoox

I really meant it when I said "she's so cute, I just want to take her home and eat her !"

dude, that's like a $90k / year job. I'm assuming that figure is all in labour, and even if it wasn't let's say 50% variance, $45k / annual gross salary is enough to get someone by.

i seriously don't believe what they're doing, and the money going to waste

Don't feel guilty at all, I have to refuse giving money almost daily walking home along yonge street at 11pm! I would rather buy them something, such as a coffee or a muffin to give them energy. I think food or drinks are better then money anyday!

If there are meals left over at my work i also give those to homeless people hangin' out in yorkville!

Which reminds me! last week, my manager bought a shit load of donuts, and guess who I ended up giving them too?

The one and only Zanta!!!

LoL - it was funny! you must have seen that dude around!

On a lighter note, I saw Zanta yesterday outside Bikkuri, we were going for sushi at lunch and he stood in front of me and gyrated whilst grunting and telling me I was "Sexxxxy in that suit, lady". Rachel's still got it, oh yeah baby, still got it.

Oh yes, he is either in Yorkville or at Yonge and King... they must be his hang outs! I want to know who his personal trainer is, those are some abs!

OHHHH!! oui oui , I know him. I just call him Naked Santa, I didn't know he had a proper title. He gave me a bunch of glowsticks on Canada Day. Crazy guy!

Posted by dallastar on Sep-07-2006 01:26:

Zanta is a very strange individual that lives in toronto, I am not sure if he is nessecesarly homeless or not, but he certainly 'romes' around a lot! he wears red shorts and a santa hat and yells a lot! some say he is nice - but he was hanging out of the cumberland subway exit (which he seems to be doing a lot of lately - possibly prepping for this years film festival?*giggle*) so I offered him the donuts - b/c I frankly did not want them! they make you ... anyways, he's weird! I will look for a pic....

50/50??? gunna disagree there.

they may be "fit" to work...as in they have arms and legs a brain, skin, eyes etc. etc....but something has happened to them that has landed them in that place.

MOST people (so not 50%) of homeless people do not wake up one day and put the blue collar/white collar outfit away and say "I am going to begin a career of homelessness".

There are many factors that contribute to homelessness, the desire to be homeless is rarely one of them. I would say that getting out of the begging trade is hard once in (factor in drugs/alocohol) when asking for money becomes litterally the easiet way to make it, but making more money as a homeless person makes me wonder what they were doing before.
