LOL! I wish it was that easy! I'm pretty much booked into mid-December so my dates are set, and, Beba's 2 Year Anniversary is Thursday the 9th, which I am headlining, so my attendance at CZ that following Sunday, November 12th is almost gauranteed.

Minimal is a tricky thing, especially finding the right kind to play at a high energy place like CZ. However, when properly selected, it is a great build up (first 30 min or hour) to a three hours set. I'm so fortunate to be around it so much living in Detroit. Wish you coulda caught it, but, you've got two months to get you plans switched around to be in attendance on the 12th and if you are, I'll make sure to drop some minimal goodness the first part of my set for ya!!!

I think there are many "banging" minimal tracks that you could play in a high energy place like CZ. Not necessarily you, but I'd like to see a DJ try a 3 or so hour minimal set at the Zone. I think it could be done.

no doubt it can be done and I would love to do it, but are the masses at that time ready for that? what is the crowd like that day? who are you playing to? all these things come into consideration while programing what you want to do and where you want to go depending on your surroundings at that particular time. even comfort zone. the crowd has been drastically different each time i've played.

a three hour minimal set is possible and is it is done all the time where i'm from but minimal is all over the place and many here (at least more than most cities i've been to) are listening to it on a regular basis. that said, even us detroiter's like a variation of styles and genres in an extended set to show the versatility and programming ability of the dj. i think it makes it fun and shows how well you've prepared when you blend several genres in one set..

I agree with you completely. If you're rocking out the minimal and the crowd is standing there with a "wtf are you doing?" look on their faces, you should probably stop playing it! That said, again, I think if the circumstances were right, a minimal set could totally be done at the Zone. When I say a minimal set though, I don't mean the whole set has to be minimal, but the majority of tracks will be, and almost all of the tracks will have "minimal elements". I agree with you that it can be fun to have a versatile set, but it can also be fun to stick to one genre provided you can do it well.

I'm going to see how my school timetable works out. I may not be able to go to Sneak's bday beats afterall, and if not, I'll definately be checking you out at The Gallery and The Zone on the following weekend.

that's a deal...hope to see you there. and, nice points...i agree with you as well. the zone would be a perfect place for a well thought out minimal set provided you had the right crowd...thanks for the discussion; i'm already lookin' forward to november.

THE FIRST TWO HOURS I REALLY FELT GOOD SINCE I HAD ACTUALLY GOT SOME REST AFTER MY GALLERY SET. THE LAST HOUR WAS TRYING AND I WAS PRETTY WORN, BUT I THINK I'VE PERFECTED THE "ONE-FOOT BOUNCE" SINCE MY LEFT IS SPRAINED. MY FRIENDS THAT WERE BEHIND THE BOOTH WERE CRACKING UP CAUSE THEY SAID MY RIGHT LEG LOOKED LIKE A POGO STICK!

YOU ALL GAVE ME THE ENERGY I NEEDED FOR THREE HOURS AND I THANK YOU FOR IT!!! CZ IS MUCH MUCH LESS SKETCHY THAN WHEN I FIRST PLAYED IN FEBRUARY AND SEEMS LESS AND LESS EACH TIME I'VE BEEN BACK INCLUDING YESTERDAY. THIS WILL BE GOOD TO GET MANY MORE INTO THIS ROOM WHERE MUSIC IS GOD AND PEOPLE TRULY DO LET IT TAKE OVER. I FUCKING LOVE IT!

SEE YOU ALL IN NOVEMBER (I THINK MY NEXT CZ SET IS THE 12TH BUT I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED). THANKS AGAIN FOR AN AMAZING WEEKEND!!!

oh i dunno, i've been going for a few years... and the patio just keeps gettin worse and worse. same thing has been noticed by some of my other friends who're long time zoners..

Posted by Cribby on Sep-27-2006 15:25:

The patio was just as if not less sketchier than Guv's patio...

I agree the patio is still quite sketchy but the zone itself is less sketchy. Used to see big biker type guys and more strippers on g++, but not so much anymore. I think those types are staying away because CZ has been getting some undercovers working lately from what I hear, perhaps due to the November incident last year. The bouncers have also been on a mission actually checking people's hands with flashlights and checking the bathroom stalls. There has been a definite effort to clean up. I have heard stories from the past that don't happen there anymore.

Honestly guys, people that know me were shocked, horrified and amazed that I was going to CZ on Sunday - so much so that 6 people who didn't intend on going, went just to see my face! Now, at the danger of losing respect from my fellow TAs, yes, I am a princess and yes, I can be snooty in my choice of clubs and associates BUT I was not, in any way, disgusted or scared at CZ.

Perhaps AA attracted a better crowd, I certainly don't know as I don't have a benchmark to go on but I know for sure that there were at least 10 people I knew (so prob many many more) making 6 figures (legitimately) as well as the younger crowd that are on their way to get there. I don't class that as a sketchy club! Stats that TiL would be proud of I think...

You weren't the only one

I'm still amazed at how much fun it was to come out to CZ that day...but I know...I came later on that day...it was probably more sketchier early morning...
