-- Oakenfold Roll Call(whos taking the risk?)
Pages (3): « 1 2 [3]
I showed up just after Oakenfeld had got on. At first I was worried as I was not feeling the tracks he was playing, but then he started building it up and banging it out nicely. Played nice energized tracks and left the slow stuff at home. The most melodic track I remember was Dogzilla's Without You. Overall his set was not bad at all IMO, at least track selection wise. As for his mixing, no big thing there as he really took no risks and kept it very very simple. I would say that Oakie looked completely disinterested up there, like a statute just going through the motions. I wondered a couple of times whether he was in a standing coma up there. But the crowd was still going off and energized despite the lack of energy from the DJ.
As for Jonathan Peters I have been one of his biggest critics, yet I stayed until about 7:15 a.m. and his set really had 2 parts for me. He started off weak and dropped some vocal house crap that had me thinking an early exit was in order. Then at some point he started dropping nasty, techy, dirty, electro and tribal house tracks that were actually quite good IMO. I will say he was all over the place at times, and his mixing was offbeat more often than not, yet the later it got the sicker the tunes he was dropping. I'll give him that, he has very good tracks in that record/CD bag of his.
As for the crowd, the good was that I saw a lot of people that I hadn't seen in a while that came out for Oakie. The bad was all the retards that went just because of the MySpace promotion and fact it was free last night. We all complain about the 18+ events, but I can tell you sloppiness and the idiot factor know no age restrictions and the shitheads in Miami are not cured at age 21. If you were there you know what I mean. Enough on that.
Production wise I really liked how they set up the terrace. It looked like a completely different place up there. Maybe the lighting was a bit too bright, but otherwise I thought they set it up nicely. Would just love to see them do something like that for PVD or Tiesto on that terrace.
did they make this an all ages or 18+ event??? they werent banding any guys that i knew of. oakie played a decent set but that place was way too fuking crowded.
