Well done, sherlock.

I have no desire to be part of a board that is just information. I like people's personalities and comments and randomness and if a thread title doesn't interest me, I don't click on it.

How about I start a chat forum for people on here who like to chat? That is what I thought this was. A common ground for people who love music to chat about music, parties and random stuff.

Pah

yea its all a load of bs around here lately. there aren't alot of people on here that I take too seriously when it comes to reviews or opinions or whatever. WHY? you just know that alot of people are friends with so and so or work for a place or are just here to promote themselves or whatever! their opinons will invariably be skewed or biased no matter how much they say they aren't and it just leads to me thinking most peoples ideas / opinions on here are completely useless.

that being said I really dont really give a fuck what people post and who posts it. i ignore most of it anyways and i find it more amusing then anything else. id also like to think that i can decipher between those that do keep it real and those that dont.

hey i had to....its the only place any of u can catch me playing...lol

its really annoying though to see how everyone (except those who do attend the AWS) keep saying on here "its all about the music" and "oh i wish i could go somewhere but its a weekday night so i cant go out late to a club" and say so many different things...this is a free weekly thing with dirt cheap booze and awesome djs and tunes....+ its early and one can head to bed in time for work the next day....

so the question is..where is everyone???

fakers

Can we mark this down as the second or third time we've agreed with each other?

It's easy to skim over things you don't like, but I have to say it's so annoying to be reading an event review looking for an actual review of the night and get 10% event review, 90% "omg it was so great dancing with u!"

agreed but thats part of the community. If people didnt add their personal touch it would be boring. Yeah it does get cliquey sometimes but thats when i just skim to the next post.

No biggie!

this is why I started the thread in the first place, I'd prefer the board not becoming a huge joke someone ignores.

It should be run just like the event thread where there is only one post for each roll call, review and picture thread, and they are organized based on the date of the event. They could stay on the page for a certain number of days, then afterwards be moved backwards like it is in the "past events" pages. It would make things easy to find, and take them out of the main forum.

I like this idea. It would make it so easy for anyone to find a roll call/event pic/review thread without having to search through pages and pages of threads. And it makes sense that they should all be together.

Also - waaaay back on page 1 - Nice post, Margs.

Sure, but people can add their 'personal touch" as part of their event review.
Event reviews on this board eventually spiral into pages and pages of mindless banter without an actual review being posted.

I can only think of a few event reviews on tribe that have gotten anywhere near as long as the average party review on TA.

Exactly. It adds the soul and heart to TA.

its the only reason I really got really attached w/ TA in the first place.

this personal touch i find devoid on most other forums.

its like that in almost every review as well. u come home from the event and there'll be 3-4 pages where there are some reviews. then u wake up 6-7 hours later or w/e, and theres 14+ pages of mostly msn style chat back and forth.

i also want to point out that there was an idea mentioned awhlie ago (by highroller i think) about putting all the pics/vids in the first post of the review thread. i think that this was a really good idea. too bad there are people that start the review thread and never update it.

10, 20 pages of MSN chat between only the people who went to the party is the definition of community on this board?

If you are attending, then post in the event thread.

I agree.

Photo threads are completely useless. You can just stick'em in the review thread or the event thread.

We don't need 4 photo thraeds every week from every single night in the city ffs

great idea! Then we wont know what we can talk about and where!

Better idea, lets compartmentalize everything in our heads when reading the thread titles into "threads i want to click on" and "threads i do not want to click on"

Problem solved!

My interpretation of Jon's concern:

- Jon is not saying roll call threads and event threads are unreasonable promotion. Jon supports proper use of roll calls and event threads.

- Jon is saying that sometimes people are using TOTA to self-promote (either themselves or their events) more than what should be considered reasonable.

- The "unreasonable" self-promotion is often routine, repeated and casual reference to one's musical/event endeavors in entirely unrelated threads.

- We have all seen some (intentional and/or unintentional) self-promotion in threads that really shouldn't have it. After a while this type of activity is bound to cause annoyance. This annoyance is what Jon is bringing to the forefront with this thread.

My $0.02:

- Promoters/talent should NOT start roll call threads for events. Promoters and talent should stick to the event threads. If TOTAs are interested in enough to start a roll call thread (un-encouraged by promoters/talent) then great - the event has support and it deserves a roll call.

- Promoters/talent and TOTAs should NOT bump roll call threads (per Margaret's post). TOTA attendees should post in it once, move along - keep event discussion in the event thread. Bumping roll calls creates a false sense of support.

- Promoters/talent need to be overly-conscious of their posts in non-music related threads. When a discussion about a non-music topic has event/promoter/talent "hints", "name drops" or "references" about inserted into it - it really sets the bar low (desperation?) and isn't respectful to TOTA as a whole (nor does it project a positive impression on the event/promoter/talent).

- TOTA has a vast amount of talent and it is worthwhile to support talent and events that deliver a QUALITY experience. Promoters and talent have the responsibility to make sure that they ALWAYS deliver a high-quality product as the the alternative alienates the key base of support TOTA offers. Sometimes it appears that TOTA supports for the sake of supporting without emphasis on quality. Without focusing on quality - the end product is bound to deteriorate - which nobody on TOTA wants to see.
