i've been looking forward to seeing markus for a while considering the fact that he's one of my all time favourite. in regards to the set it was prettu solid in my opinion. it was a little harder than what i expected but i still enjoyed it quite a bit. and the vibe lol... well well well, heaven has got the be one of the sketchiest clubs that i've ever attended. to be honest, i really think former Aria and Stereo really have to competition right now, like its almost shameless. i think only half of the crowd knew who the hell Markus Schulz was, and the rest were just there to show their sketchbag rhetoric..

Music...8/10
Vibe...0/10 lol.

Hisham

one guy that killed me was the Carlos Santana dude with the sweater and matching gloves, had shades on too. Little dude who was dancing on the speakers. That corner, the one right at the entrance, is Sketchville city centre for sure. The crowd was into it so credit Schulz for that.

One of the bartenders isn't too shabby, the trollopy looking blonde who just got new sweater puppies

lol wow, thing is the one and only time i went it wasnt AS scetchy as you guys are making it out to be. However i do not doubt you guys at all. I've given up on going out in ottawa unless its helsinki, i still love that place.

Posted by Spin Laden on Dec-24-2006 00:10:

Trust us on this one. I've been there for three headliners and maybe another four times on top of that and last night was the worse I've seen. Security were milling about all night busting ppl in the washrooms, etc.

That's what you get for booking a trance headliner

Don't forget MTL

I think that last night was pretty fun. It was my first time seeing Markus and he sure didn't dissapoint. The guy is awesome as a person as he is a Dj. I loved his set. Altough I loved hearing trance in Ottawa, I don't think Heaven is really suited for it. They need lasers big time ahaha.

Yeah the sketch factor is always there in heaven but thats because there isn't really anywhere else to go. But if you go upstairs its much better, cooler too. Plus you can make fun of all the cracked out people on the dancefloor.

And I don't know wtf u're talkin about Tag when it comes to the bartenders looking underaged ? I am pretty sure they are all older then you and I know for a fact cuz I actually know some of them.

so who was the blocky Drew Carey dude in the yellow shirt? he was def going thru his Pentacostal baptism (arms raised for joy all night) for sure

I believe i was the only TA representing Montreal.
I made the trip with my friend and thank God we made alive. We did our best to leave montreal in the afternoon so we wouldnt get caught in the icing rain (glaze?!?! not to sure of the proper term).
with our bad luck, we were right in it... we saw like 6 cars that went off road including 2 live in front and back of us. They did a huge 360 slide and went off road.
at one point we rolled at 5km/h
it took us more than 4h to get in Ottawa. We were so happy to get there. So we obviously got late on our schedule so we skiped a nice supper (sorry Chrisfly)... we only had the time to book the room and prepare ourselves for the party. To eat, I had to buy cold wrap sandwiches at the grossery store to save time.

FUCK NO FRIDGE at the Quality Hotel !!! WTF I had to empty the fuckin ice machines for the alcohol AHAHAAHHA

so we hit the club... I wont do any comment on how the place was and what the people look like... its like comparing Montreal to Ottawa LOL so I didn't had in mind or felt like judging the place and the people. I'll let this to you Ottawa peps... You know your stuff. One thing I can comment on is the sound, which sucked pretty bad ! but it was enough to enjoy the music.

Got to see PartEgirl and the crew from Toronto.. sorry guys I forgot most of your names. Only remember Souvlaki and Porken or something.
When i meet too much people in 1 min i forget names pretty fast.
Also saw OneEleven and met PrincessKim for the first time.
my friend and I were mostly near the stairs and the bottle service entrance.
Ho btw the bouncers are dumbasses ! They make us wait outside in the rain and the cold for like 15-20 min, only to see that theres nobody inside... like WTF you trying to show the club is busy ? theres no body on the street man to witness that. You aren'T on st-laurent. DOnt make people wait liek this outside on bad weathers... You want your crowd to fall sick and not go to your club ? And at one point I was talking to OneEleven and the bouncer brakes our conversation to tell me to move away cause I had a foot in the "VIP zone" wooo sorry mr bouncer i was a treat to people having drinks on couches. the VIP zone is like only couches with tables for bottle service which we have like in every club in Montreal. Seems they need to secure that AHAHAH wtf useless. What happend in the washroom ?

The cover was 15$ not 20, probably cause Markus got in late i believe. He started his set at 1:30 and finished 4:30
I did a pretty good set. It worth the ride (maybe next time not with bad weather). Its just that I didn't get the chance to see him when he was at Stereo and wanted to see him badly cause he doesn't come here a lot. I believe he played liek in Montreal cause he played pretty much a bit of everything. Trance, Prog, housier stuff, tech, ...

Saturday we checked out of the hotel and went to see the main Ottawa attraction: the Parlement. We took a couple of pictures and I experimented one panoramique picture (complete 360) HAHAAH man its soo hard. I know i messed it up but I think it will turn out pretty cool. I should have done that at night, it would have been SIIIICKK !!!

so all in all... a 2 hour ride to see a DJ is pretty worth it if you keep in mind that you only do this to hear the dj and not experience the ottawa nightlife.. LOL you most really love the DJ.

will post the 360 pic as soon as possible.

Unfortunately I acutally showed up at 2 cause I got dragged there. Thank God I was on guest list. Progressive trance is not my style either but his set had more energy than I first thought. The crowd in general seemed to enjoy the music. Trance events will always be successfull because there are so few in Ottawa.

Oh yeah, the sketch fest was in full effect last night more than the norm. All the sketchies from Surface days were representin'.

I don't know how discribe the vibe at heaven cause there is no vibe. Its like water and oil they don't mix.

dude, I feel bad for you having to go thru all that crap.. the drive, the wait outside, the VIP bouncers..man. Solid review from a true fan, in any case.

Maybe because it is my main stomping grounds, I don't find it to be sketchy at Heaven at all. The four huge booths behind the DJ booth were all people I know, so that was fab.

Markus killed it! I barely stopped dancing. He played lots of great harder tracks and a few classic cheesey ones too.

He was a super nice person too. Very humble.

By far the best night I have had at Heaven. The manager says that he is planning a few more big name trance DJs for the upcoming year too!

Nice to see Partygurl, Chris Fly, Dj Charlie, and DJ Charlie's bud Malek I think his name was?

Sorry for any bad experiences you might have had, I sure hope you make the trip again should we get another act that interests you.

It was a great night, especially considering it was my first time in Ottawa. I used to think that the party scene in Ottawa would be pretty lame but I now stand 100% corrected. Heard there would be more trance DJs coming in 2007 so looking forward to more events there. And of course awesome seeing Markus again.

Great meeting some of you guys... RobbieJ, 84th Ave, Oneeleven, and anyone else.

See some of you at Resolution for Tiesto.

i hardly ever make it out to edm events (last one i belive was sundance in the summer) these days but the oppt to see markus in ottawa couldn't be missed!

i had a great night!!! the security was acutally very good and friendly... i felt pretty safe and the sketchiness label some ppl put on heaven is unjust. sure there were some odd ppl but they are everywhere.

Music: hot. danceable. fun. being out of the scene for such a long time it was cool hearing practically all new tracks. i only knew a few remix of Touch Me was awesome! the sound system sounded like it was just about to fucking die. hahaha

overall i expected the place to be half full.. but it was nice to see the size of the crowd. also it was cool to see ppl actually enjoying trance. yey.

oh and whoever complained about waiting outside: its called fucking coat check ok? they cant have everyone enter at once cause it will create a bottle neck at the coat check. so thats why u had to wait in line even if the club was indeed empty inside.

see you next year

I believe I have enough "clubbing" experience to know what is a coat check and what is a coat check operated by turtles.

from how fast i got served at the coat check... I don't think the problem was there...
The bouncer at the door was letting like 5 people get in every 5 mins. Are the coat check girls are that slow ?
this was clearly a situation where the club wanted to show the world they were having a busy night so people walking around would think that they were having a crazy party inside so they would go there instead of another club. which wasnt the case at all.
For sure the club lost money cause it wasn't packed enough to cover the charges for Schulz. Thats what i believe. This DJ isn't playing for free. There was like what... 200 people ??? max 300
is 300 enough to make money that night ? Definitly not !
And knowing their alcohol license stops at 2am. and the club was filled up at like 1am... how do you want to make money ?

Tell me how is this club working on a regular night ? is there more or less people ?

Yes tag you keep thinking that. U're probably the sketchiest dude on this board, always bashing other's fun nights out, while you sit at home and god knows what you do with your spare time...

You wanna know a fact I'll give you a fact EVERY FUCKING EDM CLUB THATS OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND IS NOT PICKY WITH THEIR CLIENTELE WILL HAVE SKETCHY PEOPLE IN IT...

And even so if they don't bug me I could give two shits how fucked up they are.

Posted by DJ Charlie on Dec-26-2006 06:01:

i dont understand this sketchy thing.
is the Heaven crowd really different compared to those of other clubs in ottawa ?

Posted by Spin Laden on Dec-26-2006 16:47:

No pat downs at Ottawa edm clubs so go figure

I dont go to this club on a regular night.

Just logically think about it. At Heaven i noticed that it takes about 45 seconds or a minute for one person to clear all of hte necessary steps and enter the club.

id: 5 sec
pat down: 10 sec (SPIN LADEN they were doing it that night)
pay: 15 sec
check coat: 20 sec

so if you have 20 ppl in front of you in line then you will wait around 15-20 min before getting in. thats how long i waited.

as you noticed heaven is to small to have a queue form inside the club.

but then again the club might have been doing exactly what you said they were... trying make it look "busy". but on a shit freezing rain night like last friday i doubt they would attract much of a 'walk by' crowd. S\

I've never gotten a pat down there, neither have my friends.

I've been there twice, and i've had pat downs both times....

maybe i just look suspicious.....

Taggers can call me sketchy all he wants. I really don't think Heaven is.

Daylight and Illusions of Ottawa, now **that** was pure sketch. And pretty much any club in Gatineau.
