so true! I used to party party party, now I have calmed down a lot! I do go out to pubs and karaoke and that - doing different things is also fun! it's not always about partying at clubs and such. Take a break and I am sure you'll miss it before you know it!

take care and all the best!

I don't know what all you people are talking about, this is a GREAT thread. That's the awesome power of the internet--allowing us to throw opinions out there and see what sticks to the wall once waded & sifted by our peers.

Electro Funk - you DO need a 'vacation' from partying. I think extacy bomb is on the money:

You need a break so it seems fresh and new to you when you come back. You're desensitized to the scene man. We should call this 'EDM burnout.' It's a tragic illness, and we should help all our friends who suffer from this.

In all seriousness, the opinion Electro Funk has put out there isn't a new one at all (of course). I've only been in the scene 11 months. I'm a BABY to the scene (and I LOVE it). But having been in the scene only 11 months, I've still heard MANY people express the same thing EF has. I think it boils down to exactly what Extacy Bomb pointed out. I'm still "fresh" the scene. My woman is from Michigan, and they do NOT have any kind of scene down there. It's absolutely vacant, and the people down there think that trance and house is just noise. It is supremely depressing. Then we get back up to Toronto, and feel that vibe, our friends, and the great music, and BOOM. I feel like a million bucks. I'm home. The music that I have fallen in love with is back, with the scene that makes it complete.

RobSt*r--you put it PERFECTLY. That has been my opinion since day one. You are extremely well spoken and articulate. I second your notion 100x. The voice of reason has spoken.

I think that people can have a non-offensive intelligent conversation about this, without belittling anyone (*cough* slingshot *cough*).

I'll tell you, I will have a minor melt down if one more person tells me that the scene, or more specifically, Comfort Zone, is not what it used to be. Things change, some parts for the better, some parts for the worse, but over all, the scene is still as fantastic as you make it. It's our time to live it up; we aren't going to do this forever, so let's do it right while we have the drive.

I'd also like to add: our local Toronto DJs DO deserve our support. The local talent constantly delivers, and they give their all to garner the support and kudos from the very critical audiences they spin to. International talent is absolutely amazing to experience and capitalize on, but don't forget about our locals!

Damn, now i want to go dancing. And it is a rest weekend for me, all sick as I am... footwork calls... pur supper club calls...

i like this thread, it's finally showing decent activity on ta. I thought jon jon ruined ta with his idiotic thread - but only his social life. phew.

I personally will never set foot in TIL. It's not my type of club to go to. I've read such atrious reviews, then again i've heard the same about Comfort Zone. Then again, I prefer dirty and sketch over clean n materialistic.

It is a totally sad situation with our scene. Im not bothered to write some odd thousand words to explain what's so frustrating about this scene. At least we still have one, enjoy it while it lasts.

I don't go out enough to be concerned there's nowhere to go. Hell I like TECHNO and I think there are plenty of options. thankfully, most of these options are because of good-willed promoters throwing parties at customer focused venues.

The only complaint I have about TIL/Guv/Dragonfly/CZ is that its the same guys booking for all four venues and they have really strong relationships with a lot of the major north american booking agencies. So regardless of the club or the crowd, a DJ will stay loyal to them because they know it means regular bookings in the future.

Thank god for Sonic's new bookings

this is another very very good point. thanks for pointing that out. the same nights over and over again i think add to the staleness. it is very good to see some promoters doing somehting about it though.

That's a very good point that you brought up. I'm on the fence about if I like this or not though. On the one hand, it's nice to know that I won't have to wait years to see certain DJs I really enjoy. But on the other hand...it kinda sucks not having new talent in more often.

I think it's negative in general, b/c like you said, we don't get new talents.

If a DJ is good, he'll get bookings.

Or at least he should.

Bah. Club politics. So annoying

I think it sucks mostly because those are where certain DJs play and it's difficult for other promoters to lure them away to better venues.

Well, no....there's more to getting booked in this city than just talent, and I don't think it's all "politics" - not in the negative way you are implying, anyways.

Like any other job field, networking is extremely important. Also, I don't think there is anything wrong with having resident DJs - it provides consistency, builds a fan base, and the residents develop a rapport with the regular club goers. I think what you're getting at is the same thing that I am....the crew that books for system/guv/til/cz/dragonfly books the same residents everywhere, leading to somewhat of a monopoly over local DJ bookings at those venues.

Thankfully there are plenty of other smaller events/promoters that are a bit more open with their bookings.

When you have had enough of the plastic places (namely TiL), go to CZ and reset your counter.

I love the fact that I can be glam like a princess on a Friday and filthy like a sketchbag on a Sunday.

I, personally, am also off TiL at the moment but that doesn't mean I will NEVER go back.... just make it after a Thurs at the Zone and all will be right with the world.

BTW I proper lol'd at this thread in places, there is a definite epidemic of November blues on this board - either that or people desperately need to get laid.

Happy Friday!!

The kickass lobby with the music at a lower volume so you can hear the people around you... for one.

Oh, and waitresses that would actually give you free tap water.

And James Zabiella parties.
