Hey, congrats on quitting. I have been smoking since 11 (with 2 year break between 14-16) till i was 18. Mostly about a pack a day. Less on somedays, sometimes more.

Anyways I quit over a year ago by reading "Easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr. Its a pretty popular book, been translated to many languages, and you can get it at your local bookstore. So far I gave the book to my father, cousin and 4 of my smoking friends and all have quit. Now my father was a smoker with 20+ years experience.

Im not going to explain how the book works, all I can say is I read the book in little over 4 hours. Woke up next morning and never had cigarette again. No cravings, no pissy mood. Just quit. All my previous attempts with cold turkey, gum etc were unsuccessfull. I tried to quit 13+ times before and it didnt work.

Even though you have been smoke free for awhile I suggest you read the book and after that you wont be looking at cigaretts the same. The only side effects I had from quitting were 2 dreams about smoking. Thats it.

Good luck

Yup, I've heard about that book. A friend of mine used it to quit smoking and recommended it to me. I'll prolly pick it up sometime.

Don't give up that easy man! I'm sure if you really put your mind to it, you'll get hooked. Just remind yourself of all the benefits smoking provides.

Ian pictured earlier...

Thanks mate, likewise. The Triggerman haha I think that was at the time we invaded the Frog's forum and gave them a load of traditional British xenophobic abuse.

I dont like nicotine rushes at all. I hate that dizziness and nausea you get sometimes. I really think I just enjoy having a smoke every now and then. I go through phases. Right now, Im smoking more than just socially. I like to have one in the morning with my coffee. I've been smoking about 2 cigarettes a day for the past couple of weeks. I still havent rejoined my gym, but I plan on doing that very soondefinitely before the end of the year, so Im sure once I get back in workout mode, Ill drop the cigs. Its not that hard for me, I just make up my mind to do it, and I do it.

anyone else just enjoy having a smoke because it's something to do?

When I'm bored. It's social situations where I usually mess up.

Posted by adi26 on Nov-27-2006 17:24:

OH Congratulations!!!!

But you need to help me out now!!!

I decided to quit smoking yesterday evenings....

I usually smoke like 6-12 a day - more during exams!!!

But we have vacations right now and smoking has started to gross me out!! Plus I just realised how much money I have been wasting on cigs!!!

I havent smoked since about 18 hours now hehe....its not that bad at all so far lol...

Do you still crave??? I hear 2 weeks is the mark when you know that you have quit smokinggg - or have high chances of quitting!!!!

Its all good when I'm not thinking about cigs....but what to do when you are thinking about 'em????

The job im going for is gonna have me tested for stuff so gotta really chill out on everything, even though I just bought 3 rolls for x-mas

Hell yes. That was most of the reason for my habit...sheer boredom. I think that's why I don't physically crave them as much, cause it wasn't about the nicotine.

I haven't really had any major cravings. It'll pop into my head a few times a day, but I just acknowledge it and move on. The feeling passes in a minute or two. I drink lots of water too...so when that hand-to-mouth craving comes, I just take a sip of water instead.

Honestly, any time the thought pops in my head...my initial reaction is disgust, which helps BIG time.

It really is something you have to truly want and commit to. It's all psychological. The physical dependency/withdrawal peaks after 3 or 4 days....so anything after that is just will power and attitude.

ya i like to smoke but sometimes ill run out or be busy and go for a day and completely forget. no cravings... yay.
