Loving the avatar man! Rusty Represents.... even though it was a little fast for the texas surf. Maxwell and Rios boards ruled SurfSide back in the day

Thanks bro. Max/Rios boards were good but cracked easily. I never got my hands on one but Jason Nireby (dominated surfside every summer and also the dude who gave me some tips and inspired me on how to surf) started on one. I was introduced to those boards back in 02'. They've now progressed into the epoxy era, thanks to the NSP's. Did you/do you have a board? who's ur shaper?

[EDIT] might be hitting up Cali this summer, all depending on my budget set aside for Ibiza. Will be putting my longboard to work

at least for old focks like my self. My heyday was back in 88-92 I went through like 2 John Rios boards and 4 Maxwells, for that reason you stated. I would always screwed em up up coming in the inside to surf some garbage. I lived outside of ROsenburg so Surside was just down the road. BUt nothing compared to 3mile cut down in Matagorda. If you would shoot the river and scoot on over to the west side of the river pertty good stuff. My bud ordered and surfed a 5'9" BH and I picked up an old 5'11" Rusty during my senior year. Now mind ya, the BH and Rusty were just way to fast for texas surf. but we always had a Rios on stand by. Damn haven't been up since 2000.
Started to surf with some longboards just due in fact to I am fat! ha ha

couldn't float a short, maybe now, but living up in Austin, its hard to find the time for it.

haha! ya i've started working out again, this time putting more attention to my abs than anything else. tryin to prepare for cali is a bitch but its like you said, some boards are meant for high tides, not to mention barrels. hopefully i can surf a barrel this summer, my long-awaited dream.

tha clan called me Top Heavy, cause I was a workout freak back in day. little skinny legs with a large upper body. ha ha then a year into I was bit by a shark, then the name Shark Bait came to be my new name

We would chase storms that would rumble up the coast, to Mexico to FLA... it was a blast. ahhhh my youth, how I long for it again

LOL that's one thing I will never do again, is chase storms. I saw a few tiger sharks when i surfed surfside right before hurricane Rita. Frightened as hell, I pee'd in the sea and left.

I shouldn't ask you this, but how did being bit by a shark feel? Was it a tiger shark? Those are usually the ones brought in by southern undertoe forces associated before/after storms. That's when those hungry feckers come out to hunt.

I had a spring suit on and it bit down on the top of my knee. Right above the knee cap and under the thigh. It was about 3-4ft and must not of liked the taste of the wet suit, I had puncture wounds on my lower thigh, not deep enough to tear, but deep enough to make me bleed like a stuck pig. The funny thing is, I saw the SOB when I ducked dived under a wave, but kind of like a deer in headlights I just kept on, like, "Oh, hey there is something you don't see everyda.........FOCK!!!!!!! I got BIT!!!!" I think I was more ashamed than anything...

Don't know what kind it was really, it was an ugly brown grey color, but thank the gods it was not a hammer head, those are aggressive.
