Oh yeah! Now I understand what you are talking about. But cowbell definitely doesn't necessarily categorize a track as being "electro". It's the specific bassline that makes it electro, not a percussion sample. I've heard funky house tracks with a cowbell sample too, that doesn't mean that they are electro.

explains,

dubfire wont dissapoint i know it

A cowbell is an instrument thats predominatley used in electro tracks. I would therefore classify it as an element of electro. Basically i said cowbell because its the only thing that i could take from the genre of electro to describe a steve angello track. (eric prydz remix in this case)

Says who? You? Where's the logic that says that only a bassline defines a genre.
There are some electro tracks that don't even have basslines. I agree though that a track can have an electro type bassline and therefore you can classify another track like that if it shares the same characteristics.

thats good, so you can say that they have electro elements in them due to the cowbell.

i dont even know why they called it flashdance. It should be called "he's a dream"

because thats the song by shanda that they are remixing, not actually "irene cara - what feeling (flashdance)"

So then by your logic, Blue Oyester Cult - Don't Fear The Reaper has electro elements?

edit // And technically they're not "remixing" that He's A Dream track. They're just sampling the guitar and vocals

yes. cowbell is a distinguishable percussion element used in electro tracks.

Ok, but are you saying that any track that uses a cowbell...is somehow coming from electro? Because Blue Oyester Cult is about 10 years older than electro

its better justification then "deep dish say hello is electro because i say so"

im actually giving some logical reasoning behind my claim. I was trying to give an example of an angello track that had electro elements.

cowbell is a distinguishable element of electro. I don't see how this can be argued. Ever since at least 1982.

This makes me even more proud to play cowbell

I just think it's silly that you're saying a track is or isn't electro because it does or doesn't have a cowbell. Just doesn't make sense

Shutup bas, Karim is always right and we are all clearly idiots!

Posted by basvh on Dec-08-2006 23:21:

Saw Dubfire few months back and he absolutely killed it. Deep progressive with huge basslines without getting boring and very danceable.

clearly you misunderstood me because i didn't say that. I am arguing the fact that deep dish say hello is not electro because i don't see any electro elements in that track. Not even a cowbell.

Posted by idoru on Dec-09-2006 02:53:

People actually thought Say Hello was "electro"?

Posted by shaw on Jul-21-2007 06:34:

So now that they've each had a good amount of time to go on to some stuff on their own, what are your thoughts?
