I wondered when TA was going to get round to another one of these semi-regular classic S&D jizz-fests.
I cream my pants every time I hear his essential mix from Alexandra Palace and he drops Paul Van Dyks remix of Humate Love Stimulation

Hey, I've never denied my love of '90s Sasha and Digweed. Sasha wasn't too bad when I saw him on Sunday either.

Involver-sounding stuff. Quite a lot of vocals, plenty of atmospherics, some deep basslines and not too much energy.

| Originally posted by Lunar Phase 7 Best DJ of the night imo perfect and he was up against Nic Fanciulli, James Zabiela, John Digweed, Joris Voorn, Eric Prydz. He had perfect amounts of groove and melody, had the place rocking, didn't play any cheese or big anthems, but didn't bore with the same loop for 8 hours like the rest did. James Zabiela couldn't match him after, just fucked about with his iPad during a 7 minute long intro, then ended on some DrumnBass which I thought was a dick move to the poor fuck following. |

| Originally posted by chris1011 Wow. Huge names. Surprised he held his own and even showed the others what's up. If and when Eric makes it down to Toronto, I really really really hope he brings Olander with him. It will probably be the deciding factor in whether or not I buy a ticket. I remember hearing his earlier tracks and was like "wow who is this guy!". And then a few months later I learned that he was touring with Eric. I think he has a promising career ahead of him. |

Well I think Axwell is shit, so I'd have no qualms about shafting him as a DJ.

Sasha lately has this pretty cool remix/rework of Nero's Innocence he plays live, works really well live and the crowd usually loves it.

To contribute to this thread from 16 years ago, I have realized that I enjoy Sasha from all the different eras, except the late 2000's early 2010's, he played minima/tech/I don't know what you call it. He started getting better in the mid 2010's again but I've seen him solo a half dozen times since 2012, a decade ago, and he was hit or miss on two of those occasions. One night in 2013, at Output in Brooklyn, he was so drunk that he fell down and couldn't DJ, and DJ Three had to fill in for him for a half hour until he regained his composure. I got the sense that he was unhappy at that point in his life, although I've heard he has been a notorious partier for a long time. Prior to that, I saw him another half dozen times dating back to 2004. When he reunited with Digweed about 5 years ago, I think he really got his mojo and inspiration back. I'm not sure what caused their falling out, but them getting back together was probably good for both of them. When you have someone who can magic together with, you probably should do it, because magic isn't easy to come by. I have also seen Digweed play almost a dozen times dating back to 2006, and during that time, I thought his sets delivered more consistently, even though, when Sasha gets it right, he nails it.Since they've been back together I've seen them five times and only one time was less than stellar but it wasn't bad. The other four times have been phenomenal.
About 4 or 5 years ago, I saw a Sasha playlist on Soundcloud with 165 sets, and I decided to start at the top and go one by one until I finish the entire playlist. I have 38 left. The sets aren't in any order so you might listen to one from 1991 and then one from 2013, which really works out because you come to appreciate Sasha as a DJ and an artist by listening randomly from different eras and you get to hear him evolve as a DJ and what his music choices were. You have the 1989-1991, 1992-1994,1995-1997,1998-2002,2003-2006,2007-2009,2009-2013,2014-2017, and 2017-2022, and all of these eras offer you something different. I'm glad I am still plugging away at these Sasha playlists, because it's good running or dancing or relaxing, or raging music depending on which Sasha you are getting. I personally, wish I was old enough, and in the U.K. to see him in 1991, then during the mid to late 90's when he was spinning proper trance, then in NYC in the late 90's when he had his residency there. I have heard stories about the nights he spun at Twilo during the late 90's, they were supposedly legendary. It's cool to see an artist that you like progress and I hope he plays as long as he wants to. More power to him.
