I don't have a 'type', lot of mixed parentage but I've seen the worst of it firsthand with apartheid and know at least to be extremely wary of people that are liable to have a problem with it might also have a problem with me and keep well away.
It's more of a take them how they come across, self-defence thing in my case rather than anything nasty, least where I live now the society is far more accepting of most anyone.
I can take a joke, better be prepared to wear it back though

i honestly don't think i'm even the tiniest bit racist.

It's really easy to say that now that you are in a state where you can clearly think about it, as if you give racism any thought, it seems really illogical.

It's the moments when you're not thinking though, that tend to bring out the deepest isms in people.

So really what I am saying is...

YOU ARE JUST A BIG FAT DISGUSTING RACIST IN COMPLETE DENIAL OMG

There was also a good Tera Banks show about racism yesterday as well! Some people may jokingly think I am racist due to a thread I made a while back but I am not a racist ...

toodles

Interesting article regarding the discrepancies races have when it comes to their perception of racism. I dont consider myself a huge bigot as I have many friends of different races and creeds. However, every now and again I do catch myself in the act of doing something that could be considered racist. For example, if I were sitting in my parked car at night and I noticed a white person walking in my direction on the sidewalk I wouldnt think twice about it. Replace that white person with a black one and now were talking fright and a surreptious, involuntary reaction to lock my doors. Then again my reaction would depend on how that black person is dressed. If I see the black person in a suit, carrying a briefcase then I wouldnt panic. However, if I saw a 50 Cent wanna be approaching, then Id duck for cover.

So how racist are you and give us examples.

it also depends how dark they are. if theyre really black i prolly wouldnt see them so i wouldnt even think abt locking the door. however if they were a light tinge, id most likely yell NIGGA! and run them over. and and if they were not light but not really black and wearing sean john id prolly lock my doors.

i have lots of black friends, cept for at night i cant see them all

Milwaukee is one of the most segregated and racist cities i've ever been to. it sucks. you can seriously draw a line between where the "black" / "bad" neighborhood ends and the "white" / "good" neighborhood begins. it doesn't surprise me that people here are such bigots, because if you turn on the local news any night of the week you're going to hear several stories of rape, murder, burglary, kidnapping, etc... that ALL occured in Milwaukee's Northside (aka the "bad" neighborhood).

but where i grew up (Peekskill, NY) was not like that at all. i'm not saying i lived in the perfect little city, in fact we had plenty of poor people and a fair amount of crime, but we definitely didn't have race problems. black, white, latino, asian, whatever.. it didn't matter what color your skin was or what class you were a part of. i never heard kids use racial slurs against each other in school. there were never any race-related fights. race/class just didn't determine who our friends were. in fact my best friends during high school were 3 black dudes.

sooo, yea.. moving to Milwaukee was quite a shock for me. i remember going to a house party a few months after i moved here, and there was a black guy there. back in NY that would've been no big deal, but because i hadn't hung out with any black people in such a long time i was just so surprised and it felt sooo weird. i hated it.

i think how/where you grew up has a huge impact on how "racist" you are. so i totally understand why my friends in Wisconsin make racist comments, even though it always makes me cringe. i just don't see race that way because of how i grew up.

I think that's a very good response mate. I tend to avoid certain classes of people (mainly the white trash generation we have here at the moment who're very violent & moral-less) Growing up in an area which at one time had very very black & asian ethnicities, things have changed a lot, our football team were all white except a chinese lad & 2 black lads, and as someone who's grown up on football & cricket here, where many of our best sportsmen are black, i've never had a problem at all of them. The asians is a harder thing, simply because many pakistanis/bangladeshis' have moved over & taken over their own areas, with many no-go zones, knife crime & a lack of english being why many people avoid such areas & people. It's probably a bit racist, but overall they're the only people who don't seem to mix with others as often. Obviously some 2nd/3rd generations make it easier but others don't
