not really that, its his unique style which is very diverse

basically its just interesting compared to any house/trance dj

a little wierd i'll give you that

When i saw him at amnesia, he passed out behind the decks. And was decent at best. Some other no name dj in the terrase was a million times better. Holden is good but I think you guys get over excited about him.

True,

but better then the 'usual' Montreal bookings

definitly.
I also think he's not a very consistent dj, he can be amazing, and then terrible the next day. Too much drugs.

ya, you nailed it....esp when he was in Ottawa, took him a while to find his groove...

then i heard @ Aria he wasn't that good....

I see him more as a producer than a dj

when I saw him in TO, I think he may have hit the wrong button when playing cuz all of a sudden the music just stopped dead in its tracks. But that does not mean he is not good. He is a DJ to get excited about seeing, especially since he doesn't make his way to Canada THAT often.

If he doesn't come to TO, I will be making the trip for this one.

Posted by Mekroon on Dec-20-2006 20:16:

he's an insane producer
but imo sometimes he just puts in stuff that is too dark
at aria he was so funked and the vibe was just not there
when i saw him at nocturnal in miami again the vibe wasnt there but the room was just not appropriate to have any vibe

FINALLY, at Bed he was something... NOT crazy like sven, but the vibe was really great and he played a nice style, not too dark
so i think he is really inconsistant and i guess in major events he has to play more ''accessible stuff'' and this is why i was really deceived by his experimentations at aria

wow dude come i love you dont be mean

LOVE !

i dont think he got more popular since that time he came at aria
everything amazing he put on border community was way before that gig
i think there will be more people next time just because its not pillz hours

i guess i could go there for my birthday:P

y doit ben avoir les poches en dessous des yeux au niveau des genoux maintenant

not exactly true. he did release some huge stuff before his aria performance, but his sound wasnt exactly the same, and he acquired a lot of recognition (and hate, from some) since then.

Second, this WILL be pillz hour. This show is part of the Nuit elektronic. So its an all night event.

+1
If you are expecting trance from Holden, you havent heard him since 2003. Anyways, trance sucks. Unless, he plays that neo-trance/BC sound, I dont wanna hear any trance coming from him

Some of the replies in this thread are absolutely ridiculous! Thanks for the laughs!

I like trance nights at the Metropolis... its very nice when you see the dj on the stage hands in the air will the breakdowns... like god pose you know.. pleasant to the eyes and nice to the ears

Posted by julien2 on Dec-20-2006 21:48:

Charlie: what is it that you dont understand.
THERE WILL BE NO TRANCE AT ALL ON THAT PARTICULAR NIGHT AT METROPOLIS

James Holden has not spun trance since he realised trance sucks donkey balls (around 2003). He then realised: hey, lets reinvent trance, which he did.

But there will be no Tiesto/PVD/Armin/Searching-for-sunrises-and-birds crap.

This night is organised by Piknic electronik and MUTEK.

There will be a James Holden DJ set
+
ipod battle ft. Ernesto and Koze

If you think you will hear trance, you will be disappointed.

I dont know what you guys are on about but I had a blast when he came to Aria, one of my best nights there and only because of the music he spun, don't really remember his techniques behind the decks but it wasn't that bad coz I would of remembered (ahem like Felix Housecat lol).
A lot of people left but those who stayed were loving it and some of my friends werent on drugs so you dont have to take them to enjoy his sound.
The darker the better I say, although a lot of his latest shit isn't anywhere near as dark as he can be.

So happy to hear this will be an all-nite event

Shara & Jenn: you're coming

Charlie: you're obviously joking.

Unfortunately Holden himself HATES the sound pre border community (balance 005) and doesn't even want to be judged by anything prior to the launch of BC.

Kinda funny all you guys like what he doesn't and felt pressured to release

Balance 005 did ROCk though- so nothing on that

That was the point. Anddddddddd I have respect for anyone who shits out such a great compilation like that one so I'll go see James anytime.

Funny how you're in Buenos Aires and in Starship troopers the evil bugs from the bug planet shot an astroid there!

Very well said.....Metropolis is gonna be a sick venue

Always wanted to hear something trippy in a big venue

can't f'in wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Sean Walsh on Dec-21-2006 05:34:

Shrug, I don't enjoy drugs enough to really feel the shit he's doing these days, but I'll support him even if he's playing square-dance records all night on account of the fact that I've loved so much of the shit he's put out over the years.

What I wouldn't give though to see him drop something like his old Accadia - Into the Dawn remix. A pipedream surely =P
