there are people in the world who figured this entire scenario out beforehand... too bad the authors of it didn't see similarly.

.........but he did have over 140 people killed (that we know of), problem or not he still deserved to die and still conmitted a crime.

you have to admit there were way less deaths per day when saddam was in charge.

this whole incident started off as a catastrophy, first from 9/11 to bin laden, then sadam husseins wmd then saddam hussen himself. I thoght people were smarter than that, apparently not. I cant see any correlation between any of those events i just listed.

And wow this vote your talking about is doing so much for the country now. give me a break, you know htis is just going to make the situation worse. To have him hanged for killing 147 people? How many iraqis did bush order to be killed with his military.

Politics is hilarious.

Short term pain for long term gain?

Well, we'll have to see.

Except Bush can justify, at least to people that matter, that he did nothing wrong.

Well, if you want to fault Bush for the Iraq thing, might as well start with every head of state who went along with this, including everyone on the Security Council, and the rest of the vaunted United Nation for endorsing the Coalition presence in Iraq now.

Politics is hilarious.

I completely agree.

according to some biologists, they think there may actually be a gene that leads to this kind of behaviour. A gene that drives certain ppl to attempt to control others... associated w/ social dominance and strong control over other ppl.

Interesting notions. I wanna read more papers on the matter.

right.. most people dont have a say what goes on thats just the fact of the matter, there was no justification for going into iraq. There was no WMD end of story. And also saddam has nothing to do with 9 11. 1 arab does not equal another as far as i know.

Dr. Hibbert, "Well, only one in two million people has what we call the "evil gene". Hitler had it, Walt Disney had it, and Freddy Quimby has it"

Actually, the American people did, and seems enough of them voted to keep this guy in power.

What also took me by surprise is that they executed him during Eid, a holy day for muslims. When I first read that they were going to execute him this weekend, I thought I made a mistake in thinking it was Eid. guess not

You are ignoring that the fact that the entire nation, is entirely under the rule of the United States of America. The only thing the US does not control are the people...this case was a foregone conclusion, as is the failure of the American forces there, the civil unrest; and the reality that this invasion was never justified; ************ of the action of Saddam.

I am vehemently against the death penalty in any country. I think that in today's society, we know that a sentence of Death is not a deterrent. There will always be marters after such a barbaric display from humanity.

I am truly ashamed of any human that takes pleasure in thinking himself to be judge and jury for a human life. Anyone that supports or justifies such a draconian display, must think of themself too highly.

I don't care what he's done...watching that vid, watching ANYone die like that (whether it's real or not)...does not make me feel good, or happy, or glad. It almost made me cry, to be honest.

I know it sickening that someone shot this video from their camera - but it was bound to happen! yikes, and just to clarify I didn't watch it, I clicked on the link that's in that thread and saw the stairs and him going up them and that is all! I closed it straight away!!!!!!! Just so everyone knows!

that's all

Yep. And in Western nations, the cost of actually carrying out the death penalty, and not just for the process, but the cost of appeals and whatnot gets way too expensive than actual cost of life sentence in a prison
quote:

Well, depends on whether death of a person has actual meaning for others. For Saddam, there are enough Sunni Iraqis who think he's the shit, so his death means something.

But in other cases, martyrdom is hard to actually come by.
quote:

Often people are forced to make decisions that may affect whether a person dies or not, though not necessarily playing a judge. For example, there is one ambulance, but there are 2 patients who are suffering from life threatening injuries. To whom does the dispatcher sent the ambulance?
It's not so black and white to see how others affect each other's lives.
