Also here in Waterloo, the tap water leaves a really nasty white residue after I do dishes. It's also in the shower and in the ice cube trays. My mom said it sounds like the water here has a lot of lime in it. That can't be good?

i live in kitchener and rarely drink tap water. your mom is right, the water in this region comes from the ground and has a high mineral content, making it quite hard (probably explains the white residue). i dont think its harmful though.

I look at it this way, if you don't have a filter, you ARE the filter...

what do you think it is in tap water that makes it harmful though? chemicals or bacteria? what makes it bad for you?

it has a strange smell too, although I notice it mostly in the shower. My landlords said that Waterloo region water isn't exactly the best in Canada and said that I should invest in a Culligan dispenser. Screw that, they're much too expensive so I just use a Brita container and change the filter every month or two.

I rent one for 2$ a month and a big jug is only 5$. It's really not that expensive. That's probably cheaper than your filter.

but isn't Culligan just a glorified version of bottled water anyway? The Brita filters that I buy are $6.99 and last for two months.

It is filterted very well. It tastes way better than normal tap water, and it's always cold which is the best part. Either way do what you like. Just thought I'd let you know it wasn't very expensive

Yes, storing water in plastic is not good, but just simply pouring water into a glass does not make it any better for you.

i don't want to be picking on you, but do you wear a gas mask with a filtrating device 24/7 ? Do you grow your own vegetables and fruits to be sure that nothing gets between your body and your food? How's the cows and chicken doing?

LOL

You have a point. The water in Toronto is really good, I always drank it and never had any issues. Come on people its not like we are a third world country here. If we couldn't drink the water, we would be told so. The air you breath in Toronto is probably WAY more harmful than anything water does.

Yep. The water here is more sketchy than Toronto. I have a brita filter for the sink in kitchen, then I also have a brita filter plastic jar thing.

Tastes fine afterwards.

Though I don't notice the smell in shower. Must be used to it I guess

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure drinking tap water straight out of the tap in Toronto is fine, it's just not my preference.
There is a definite difference between tap water and my water that's been through my water filter that's all.
It's a lifestyle choice, nothing to be alarmed about; sorry if I sounded like I was.
Bessy is fine btw... (long live free range chicken and beef! MMMmmmm...)
Truth be told, if I could grow / cultivate my own food, I would.

it could just be my taps too. It's an older building, etc...lots of buildup in the pipes? Fuck it, i'm not panicky about the water quality but the taste is quite off putting to say the least.

so you're a KW local eh! I was in the Purple Room on Friday. I'd say hi if I knew who you were in person, lol.

Toronto tap water is great. I drink it vs. the filtered water at work (who knows when they last changed the filter?!?!).

Toronto tap water is very safe and easily drinkable. I recommend it.

Yes, wayyyyy better There are day's when you can't even shower with Cambridge's tap water... I didn't think it was that bad until a warning in the newspaper a few months ago. To my understanding, it was only for a certain part of Cambridge though.
