I once read on a forum about a guy who named his firstborn after his DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot, an MMO along the lines of WoW) character. Sad part is he seemed totally oblivious to what he'd done to the poor kids life. Pretty sure I'd move out and never acknowledge my parents again if I found out I was named after a gaming character.
Started with Euro in the Mid 90's, migrated to trance in about 1999 when I found this site...and the Dl of Armin's Club Eau set from 3-18-00

hmm, i was in an anime shop at the irvine spectrum and they were playing this tape of electronic music and i thought it was really good so i bought a copy. not much later, my mom heard a robert miles song (one and one) i think on the radio, and then she bought that cd, so i had 2 mixes of electronica i guess. then i picked up happy 2b hardcore vol 2. i really started getting into it way more when system f - trance nation 1 came out. that was around the time of napster so i looked for more songs by the artists i liked and ended up finding cds like gatecrasher and stuff.
I been listening to EDM for more then a decade. My transition to it was kind of weird. In the 70s I was into Disco, In the early 80s I was getting into Rock music thanks to MTV. In the mid 80s I was getting into Rap/Breakdancing music cause most of it had an electronic sound which I believe was called Freestyle. In about the late 80s to early 90s I heard House music and Techno when some of it was playing on the Power 96. I didn't know much about the music in terms of the artist and track titles, So it was difficult to find what you were looking for. I remember buying a lot of compilations on cassette tapes that had Techno or House on the titles. Now the first time I got into Trance, Is when I bought this one compilation on Cassette that mentioned Techno, Trance, And House. I was listening to this compilation and from that point on, I got hooked into Trance, However, It was difficult to find considering that I didnt know much about the artist and track names. Trance music back in the days sounded like Trance music to me. If you listen to Trance music today, Its a lot more melody driven then how it was back in the days. Trance had a more hypnotic sound and didn't rely much on melodies.
Ealy 90's Bad Boy Bill hot mix 13 & then Nigel Richards Hands in the Air from 1996 sealed it for me.
weird progression...
MTV---- 2 unlimited , no limits ----got me started
MTV---- Robert Miles , Children and then Fable ----got me very interested in similar music
MTV---- BT, flaming june ----made me realize how amazing this type of music was
Some random CD I was ripping for a friend---- Andain (G&D), Beautiful Things ----got me hooked
