f30: http://www.nextlevel.ws/rizo/070203/target57.html

and if you think its due to the different positions when i took those videos heres another sample:

z750: http://www.nextlevel.ws/rizo/070126/target38.html -- currently one of my favorite videos
f30: http://www.nextlevel.ws/rizo/070106/target70.html

pretty much the lows overwhelm the f30 more samples on http://myspace.com/rizo83 (dscf=f30 and cimg=z750)

well good video implies that the sound is good too. my camera takes AWESOME visual quality videos but the sound is ass. wayy overpowered by the lows.

I went to a Ritz Camera to check out the different cameras that I wanted to see. They didn't have the Canon SD800 in stock, but they did have the SD 550 (7.1MP not bad), SD600 (6MP looks just like the SD300, and the SD630 (6MP Just like the SD600, but with a bigger screen).

I was also shown a Nikon CoolPixS9 (6.1MP) that's the same price as the Canon SD600. I actually liked the Nikon. It didn't have a zoom out lens, but the guy said (I don't know if it's true) that it still takes the same kind of pics that the other cameras would. They all have 3x zoom.

...so what do you guys think? Should I should stick to the Canon? Does anyone have any experience with Nikon?

BTW: You guys are awesome. Thank you so much for all of your input so far. I'm impressed

the CCD (the chip that takes the pictures) is smaller on the nikon than the canon. this normally translates into worse pictures.

battery life seems HORRIBLE. 190 pics? my sd800 lasted michelle using it for TWO days! and she was CONSTANTLY using it. she went through 2x2gb sd cards full! i think more!

this is is reference to the nikon.

Very HELPFUL! Thanks!
Say no to Nikon.

Hmmm....Canon it is...now which one do I want?

Posted by gehzumteufel on Feb-08-2007 02:30:

well you already know my view on which one to get. its up to you whether or not to spend that much on a camera. i got a good deal when i got mine. i got it for 366 including shipping. now you can get it for 375 including shipping.

Posted by in2muzikk on Feb-08-2007 07:50:

NewEgg.com has the Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera priced at $216 - $15 coupon code EMC206SD600CAN + $0 shipping = $201 shipped.

Dell Home has the Canon PowerShot SD630 6.0MP 3x Optical Zoom Digital Camera for $240 with free shipping. This updated camera features a huge 3.0" LCD screen that takes up almost the entire backside.

SD800's not coming up with much of a discount anywhere, but if you can be patient, Dell will probably put it on sale soon. On 11/21/06 it was $288, on 12/5, 12/13, and 12/18 it was $306. Most of these dates are in the middle of the week, so those are the best days to check.

Note: Always check with Canon to see whether the store is a Canon Authorized Dealer before buying, otherwise Canon may not honor the warranty. Dell was a Canon Authorized Dealer when I bought my SD300 from them.

Okay, since I am on a budget I am going to get the Canon SD600.

How does that sound? Good choice?

obo means or best offer.

so i'm asking if anyone to make me one. i payed around that much for it, for the extra battery, memory card, and carrying case.

i've barely used this camera, so it's practically brand new.

Posted by Shooting Star 4 on Feb-09-2007 00:02:

YAY!
I just purchased my camera. It should be here in about 3 days.
in2muzikk: Thanks for the newegg.com discount code!...and for all the help.

Ben: Thanks for all the help also.

You guys are all great.

WooHoo! I cannot wait for my camera to get here.

while i do understand that and i am totally for helping a TA out but i am also someone who goes for the best for my money. lets just assume that you get the sd800 for 400 retail, so you pay 430 for the camera, 2 extra batteries for $5 off ebay (i did this), and a 4gb SDHC class 6 memory card off pricewatch for 115. your at the same place pretty much and a much better camera. also the sd700, sd800, and sd900 support larger memory cards than 2gb which right now seems like no big deal but later when cameras improve and pretty much require SDHC it will be an advantage since you already have that media. just another angle is all. check your pms

I was considering purchasing an extra battery through ebay for my SD630, but I just wasn't sure how well those after market batteries work. Do you have any problems with the ones you got off ebay?

well to be quite honest i bought them so that i wouldnt run out for GIANT MAXIMUS. the ORIGINAL battery NEVER died once. i wasnt the one using it (sweetcandy-girl was). we used it like 2-3 weeks earlier and it didnt die once. and we were out for 2 days of clubbing. but this is an sd800 not an sd630. they did something that the battery doesnt die so fast on the upper end ones. dunno what but yeah. so i have yet to use the ebay batteries but ill use it tomorrow and let ya know.

No problem, I was born to shop...one of my biggest passions after music! Easiest way to return the favor is to put your pics up here on TA so we can all see em!

in2muzikk [or anyone else] ::: i've been looking at sony cams, but the review of the fuji in this thread is making me reconsider. if you don't mind -- how's the audio? i've been mostly happy with my canon, but audio taken inside clubs has been nothing short of horrendous. the bass is brutal...

long battery life's another sticking point, considering i shoot 200-300 pics for an average-length event. the fuji's lasts approx two days, you said?!

OMFG do NOT buy them. michelle ended up using them and they were HORRIBLE. dead in like 20mins! stick with canon or good immitations.

rich: yeah i agree on that one. thats what i have.

Posted by in2muzikk on Feb-09-2007 16:12:

The Fuji battery (new) is rated at 580 pics per charge, I tried to run mine down after taking pics at Spundae Circus (so as not to store it on a full charge, which is bad for Li-Ion batteries). I left the slide show running for over an hour and it still showed a completely full charge...I can't seem to run this thing down!

Spare OEM Fuji batteries are $40...I did buy one, but doubt if I will ever need it! As for audio quality of videos, the only way to adjust video sound level is on playback, similar to most other pocket-size cams. I think the distortion we hear is from the cams recording at the highest line level in, which is fine for normal conversations but not to record blasting speakers! Here's a vid that I took with my F30 (Johan Gielen) - haven't had it long enough to test in different settings, but hopefully this helps!

I always use only OEM batteries with my cameras. If you ever need to send your camera in for service, NEVER mention that you used another kind of battery as this voids the warranty. If the battery's bad enough, it may ruin the camera and they may figure it out anyway though. New cameras are easily $300 and up these days, not worth trying to save $30 and ruining them imo...

Cool. Thanks! The first time my battery died was at Giant Maximus in the middle of Armin's set. I had taken a lot of pictures and video that night, but was very surprised that it didn't last the whole event. I just want to make sure when I go to another event like that I have a backup.
