To speak to a few of the things here...
Kris is giving some really good advice, there are a few things to keep in mind.
This is a vary popular festival, but its different than what a lot of people are probably thinking.
The venue is a fantastic venue...It is one giant plaza, right on the detroit river in the heart of the city.
It is 100 percent safe, this is honestly probably the safest event of the year in Detroit. There are cops at and security patrolling the streets, and thousands of people everywhere.
However, this isn't like ultra in the sense that the grounds will be jammed from open to close. During the afternoon hours the festival is much less busy.It picks up late afternoon and is really rocking at night.
Bleu usually brings in some pretty big names, even if techno isn't exactly your thing. Markus Schulz, Junkie XL, Bad Boy Bill, I know there have been other big ones, Kris can probably remember more.
Richie closing is truly an event...whether you like him or not. You think people here like it when Richie comes? You should see it in Detroit.
This is a very fun weekend, I highly recommend it.

wow. i'm getting more excited the more i read this.
thanks for the info josh.... if my decision wasn't finalized (which it was two days ago) you've finalized it for me now.
i'll check into the hotel jenn.... i'll see what I can do on my end....
When you guys are booking hotels, pay attention to how far away they are from the downtown core...
The reason i say this is that, it is ideal to get a hotel within walking distance of the festival. But if you are too far away it would also be an idea to consider staying in windsor and taking the tunnel bus over, it is quick and runs relatively frequent.
If you do that, there are two things you need to consider.
1)Depending on what you "do" when you party, the border and customs officers may or may not be an issue, don't forget this.
2)They don't run all night. If you want to do lots of afterpartying this is probably not the best route, but if the festival is what you're doing this works well, and there are more places to eat and hang out in downtown windsor than detroit.
In years past I admit the DEMF line-up hasn't been all that attractive to me, but this year I just might have to make the trek down there...CVS, Luciano et al!?!?

There are a few that are sponsored by Paxahau and the festival - if you buy a VIP pass in past years, you have gained access to these parties. Hope this helps, yo. |
