5 years : hopefully done with studying
10 years :i'll be 31 ( a bit scary when i think of it )
no clue where i'll be at this time
even if i study and my dream goal is to make a good career i still have this feeling of having an unconventionnal life
who knows maybe i'll give up everything and just work in a third world country or ....live in some paradise coconuts islands
and settling down with someone the life most people have....i cant say this idea really attracts me
but hopefully i will still be with my boyfriend

i'm gonna graduate this summer.
i already have a job for almost a year now in my specialization area so things are looking good regarding my career i guess.
in five years i'll be 27, hopefully not married but in a serious relationship. also living alone or with my gf.
10 yeas is a bit too long to look ahead.
ok, now that's what a normal person would say, but i'm not normal so i really don't know where i'm gonna be in the future it depends of what's in my head at the moment. in the past few months i've been considering the french legion.

If I could give an honest answer I think that it would mean that I'm living a pretty boring life, quite frankly. I don't want a life that follows a script, or is predictable.

well put.
i used to think a predictable life was good, but i realized how godawfully boring that would be if i knew exactly where i'd be in 5-10 years. i really don't have any definitive "plans" for my life other than having fun, travelling, and eventually leaving Wisconsin and going somewhere new. beyond that, i look forward to the surprises that life will bring my way.

True. But like I said , all of what I said could change within 1 or 2 or 5 years, I mean nothing is set in stone. I'm still growing and learning everyday. I just have goals as to what I would want to do and accomplish.

5 years - Less fun and more responsibility
10 years - No fun and even more responsibility

I understand where you're coming from. I used to have more specific goals with what I wanted to do in the future but looking back at my life up to this point it seems like it was so naive, thinking that in 5 or 10 years I wasn't going to change. But I did change, and the goals I had before were things I no longer wanted to pursue.
Now, I really value my own personal change - every year and sometimes even more frequently I spontaneously decide to do something major that's completely new and I get a whole new set of perspectives and experiences along with that. It's really wonderful, it's like living life in three dimensions versus living life in two dimensions when you're really only exploring one path, one set of goals and ideas. I could never go back to the one-track mindset that most people seem to have where they have like a career path they've planned their whole life around or like saying what kind of relationship they want to be in within so many years.
I don't ever want to stop changing, but I know that it makes no sense to make a 5-year plan when in nine months I'm gonna change and want to make a different plan. So I have goals and I make plans, but I just keep them in a much shorter time frame. It works out better that way, for me anyway. Maybe other people really like the whole planned life thing, I don't know, people are different so maybe that's the ticket for some people. But I mean no offense when I say that personally, I am repulsed by that sort of a life. It could just be personal preference, but I know it's not for me.

also the things i want in life are quite common. a house. is that bad? is that scripted? a gf/wife. scripted? i wouldnt call them scripted at all. dont get me wrong. i dont know when exactly those will happen but i would love to have the house soon after i graduate.

I on the other hand am scatter brained ( if that's enough the right term in English ). That's why I said all my plans could change. I can make my ( not set in stone ) list and within the next year BAM all changed. I agree with the " not wanting to stop changing ", who wants too? I love learning new things and having my eyes opened to different things that may help me or make me see things in a new way that could alter my life for the best and/or make me want to put certain things to the side for a a little bit while I try and do different things.
Setting a 5 year, 10 year plan isn't just necessarily a "plan". To me it seems more of an aid and a reminder in case you lose track of what you were doing/want to do. A check list is something else that someone could use it for, doesn't have to be done in order...things are just written down to let you know what you want to do an keep track. I'm not once track minded or close minded at all. That's why I'm open to new things and ready/willing to change or try things in a different way.

Still being alive would probably be a good start.
No guarantees there though.

In 10 years all you guys will probably be my slaves. I should own 23 countries and be constantly surrounded by beautiful naked women.

10 years investor+business owner+designer...happy?
15 years kidney transplant fails, depression, suicide.
The end.

My future looks very good indeed, however, it is far to fluid to pin down any real vision of where I will be. I will say that I hope to be a father within 5 years but other then that I have only a rough plan and intend to play it by ear.

Honestly, absolutely no clue. Finished Uni I guess, unless I stick around do to post-grad study.
10 years, much the same. 27 is still hanging onto youth, so I dunno. Largely depends on what I end up deciding to do with my life.

I see your point, although you are wrong to some degree.
I have a good idea of where I'll be in 5-10 years, and I live no 'boring life'.
If it's a bore to have dreams and goals, and want to achieve them and have even a clue as to wether they are achievable, or not, is not boring.
If for example, I could see myself in 10 years being able to snowboard, dj in clubs and be able to sex 12 women simultanously. And I see that happening now,10 years prior. And thats my honest answer, you'd think I led a boring life?

Yea but if your future plans and goals are anything but boring, then I see no problem in mapping out the path and steps you need to take in order to reach those goals. How are you ever going to get anywhere in life or be where you want to be, without ever giving it any real thought? Maybe do some soul searching?
I dunno, Ive always been goal oriented, but I know everyone is different.
