| Woolmer died of strangulation Cricinfo staff March 22, 2007 The death of Bob Woolmer is now being treated as a murder case. During a press conference in Jamaica it was revealed that he died of asphyxiation by manual strangulation. Post mortem results show that Woolmer was strangled. Police spokesman Karl Angell said: "The pathologist's report states that Mr Woolmer's death was due to asphyxiation as a result of manual strangulation. In these circumstances, the matter of Mr Woolmer's death is now being treated by the Jamaica police as a case of murder." Paul Condon, the former Commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police who conducted a report into match-fixing and corruption in 2001, will assist in the investigations. "We have a lot of lines of inquiry but there are no suspects," said Mark Shields, Jamaica's deputy commissioner of police who is now heading the police investigation. He addressed the press conference along with Malcolm Speed and Chris Dehring, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Windies World Cup 2007. Speed confirmed that the World Cup will continue. Dehring said: "We have reviewed the security arrangements in place and we feel that are adequate." |

| Police hunt Woolmer's murderer Cricinfo staff March 22, 2007 Police are searching for the killer - or killers - of Bob Woolmer after revealing he was strangled in his hotel room on Sunday. During a press conference in Jamaica police confirmed Woolmer was murdered - he showed few signs of struggling with his attackers - and there were no suspects. "The pathologist's report states that Mr Woolmer's death was due to asphyxiation as a result of manual strangulation," Karl Angell, the police spokesman, said. "In these circumstances, the matter of Mr Woolmer's death is now being treated by the Jamaica police as a case of murder." Mark Shields, Jamaica's deputy commissioner of police, is now heading the investigation and said there were many lines of inquiry. "Bob is a large man and it would take some significant force to strangle him, but we don't know at this point how many people were in his room," he said. "There was very little evidence of a struggle." When asked why it had taken so long to prove the case of strangulation Shields said: "There were no visible signs in this particular case and we had to make sure." Shields said there was no reason why the Pakistan team would be detained in Jamaica, "but we're ruling nothing out". He said the coroners would decide whether Woolmer's body would be allowed to travel back with the team on Saturday. "I have a meeting with them in morning," Shields said. Woolmer was pronounced dead at 12.14pm on Sunday, but Shields said "there were no visible signs of life when found". "He went to his room at 8.30pm in evening and was found by a chamber maid at 10.45am. We don't have a time of death as of now, but I would say it's closer towards the time he was found." When asked if there were any other injuries Shields said: "There were some other issues around the body which we'll take time to look at and examine." Vomit and blood was also found in the room, but Shields was still waiting for the toxicology and histology results. "A full forensic examination of the body in the room was done for finger prints," he said. "We have sealed all CCTV records as well as all electronic records. Calls to the room, calls from his mobile all have been checked." Shields said Scotland Yard, his former employers, had offered its assistance and he would take it "should we need it". Woolmer holds a British passport, but split most of his time since taking the Pakistan job living in Lahore and Cape Town. "We're also in touch with Pakistan and South African police," Shields said. "The ICC has offered us all assistance [with regard to the Anti-Corruption Unit] and we're exploring every avenue." Malcolm Speed, the ICC chief executive, confirmed at the conference the World Cup would continue and they would not be "put off by a cowardly criminal act". "This is not the first time that tragedy has visited a sporting event," Speed said, "but what we must all do now is to show how resolute the game is by proving ourselves strong enough to move on from what has happened." |
wow...this will get nasty.
I hope they find the book woolmer was writing about match fixing, so we can have some names to point fingers at...
India vs Sirlanka Tommorrow interesting game.
Sirlanka has 2 points and India has 1, a do or die match for india.
India need 255 to win. Definitely doable if they play responsibly.

one down! amazing c&b from Vaas who is one of my most rated bowlers in the world.
good catch from Murali, makes it 43-2
damn it. i hope tendulkar and sehwag can put up a decent partnership.
Never mind...Tendulkar's gone.

much much worse to be indian now, with Yuvraj run out & Dhoni with the easiest LBW decision i've seen in a long time from Murali. 112-6 at this time, and it could be bye bye India if Bangladesh beat Bermuda tomorrow
well they deserve what they get. chokers. The top order collapsed as usual. It is obvious that Indians cannot chase under pressure. Time and again we have seen this. Tendulkar never delivers in critical matches when India bats second. They all fucked up. Having won the toss, they should have batted first, and put up a big total. They can still win, but that's a remote possibility now.

and there goes Agarkar. Eejit, I mean Ajit.
Dravid out for 60, with 17 of that hit off the previous over and he was having cramps too. Maybe he should go out to bat with cramp. In the battle of Moody & Chappell, it looks like tom moody is going to come out on top.
that's it. I'm outta here.
ok, i come back to post.
It's over. ![]()

I'd be nervous if I was Greg Chappel right about now.
(Bad taste I know)
Yeah, BCCI is more political organisation than cricket sometimes, you can see it with their constant postulating with the ICC rather than focussing on their own issues.
Then theres great things happening in selection like the factional fighting. For example, Greg Chappel was assaulted in an airport a few months ago by a fan because there was no player from that region in the team. If the fans are like that, imagine the administrators who have a vested interest in representing their areas.
I still hope the side gets through though (pretty damn unlikely I know).
The Sri Lankans are looking pretty ominous this year though, should be an interesting Super 8's.
The biggest losers from India's (and Pakistan's) exit are probably going to be the ICC and the Carribean Tourism Industry with all the revenue that is lost.
It sucks that they get so much revenue from a team that doesnt deserve anything other than massive pay cuts and for starters being flown back coach class with everyone seated in the middle.
Im disappointed yes but this crumbling under pressure every time warrants no sympathy. I hope theres no upset and bangladesh go on to beat bermuda because quite frankly they deserve it more than we do.
I dont know whether its monumental expectations or plain indifference toward winning given that the fat pay checks will keep coming because of the massive popularity of the sport but Indian cricket needs a major makeover with form taking precedence over experience and sentiments
....
devastated.
This is the most funniest world cup, before the second round 2 bigs teams are pretty much out though i dont know why i call Pakistan a big team.
But definitely, If i am the indian coach i would be watching the next game between bermuda vs. bangladesh at the airport, and have a plane ready to take me to an secret location if bengladesh won. LOL
Good team work by Sir Lanka , Bowling ,fielding everything. They were all over the place in fielding which i think is the key to there win yesterday.
gotta admit, pretty solid batting performance by Australia.
Watched the first 12 overs of the first innings at a mates who has Foxtel, that was some great hitting.
The bowling is still a worry though, it still seems we might have problems defending any totals. Up against Sri Lanka and if we come up against South Africa again we could be in trouble.
professional performance from england too. Besides picking mahmood over plunkett, we did what others haven't done & got the job done against the Kenyans. Tikolo batted & bowled very well as you'd expect of their best player, but most of the rest were a class below. Joyce got some runs and Pietersen played well, I expected him to try to dominate it a lot more but he was intelligent. While we go into the super eights one game down from the kiwi one, we've got the ability to test every other team on a given day, provided we perform.
