exactly, for years he rocked club It with quality house music mixed solid with great trackselection.

After a few years he realised that he still could get pussy and loads of money without putting any effort in it and spinning cheese music.

I disagree, paired with a nice breeze, a tumbleweed can be VERY effective.

Well, you know Oakey used to be "gangstah" like that. He used to be a hip-hop dj.

The Horn Ride > The Launch.....those who don't about The Horn Ride better do some research. The Launch was a bastardized rip off.

Ill give you an example. When Im sitting on a airplane right next to Paul Van Dyk, which has happened before, going to Ibiza, just because I make music and he makes music does not mean that I should talk to him. And I didnt talk to him because I dont give a fuck about him! I dont care about this dude. Why would I? At least with urban music, theyre real, and if they get some beef, they talk about it. They say, You know what? I dont like what youre doing and I think what I am doing is better. People might think thats a bad attitude, but I think that being fake is a bad attitude as well. In fact I think being fake is an even worse attitude because the repercussions for fake behavior have aftereffects for a long time. Whereas if you get in somebodys face and say, Hey, man. Fuck you. I dont like you. You dont like me, cool, peace, end of story, the effect is that that two people know where they stand, and thats cool.

christ what an idiot

Jay Haze is fucking awesome. I like a guy who can agree to disagree.

its called professionalism and courtesy. theyre both in the same profession and yet he didnt talk to him because he doesnt like his music??

and then later he says he respects what he does and wants to achive the same thing...

Where did he say he didn't like his music?

He's saying he doesnt feel that just because they both produce electronic music and play records that he should be obligated to make small talk with him or engage him in fake conversations about "how much they have in common" or whatever. Because they really DONT.

See, he says James Holden sucks, I disagree, but at least he can back up his opinion, he has his reasons, and he's honest.

I agree with him that theres far too much ass kissing in dance music. It bogs down the scene, it makes for fake hype and unwarranted fanfare. It gives people false senses of satisfaction. If I made a shit record or mix, I'd hope people were honest with their opinions of it.

Wow, everyone's basically nailed it already before I even had a chance

Well, except this one thing....

James Holden, as a live DJ, does suck.

Exactly. When was the last time you'd read an interview where a DJ or producer said s/he didn't like another DJ or producer? Granted, the whole EDM "scene" has a strong foundation in respect, non-violence, etc. (think 'plur'), but that doesn't mean artists shouldn't say, "Yeah, I don't like what he's doing."

Well yeah, you may have that opinion, but when I saw him, he was fucking on point. Maybe it was because Trainwreck lavelle opened for him, but I thought he was technically pretty damn good and his flow and selection were great. He mixed between Nazitrancefuckoff and MANDY - Jah for like 4 and a half minutes. He had a few slight slips here and there but norhing major for mixing between looped CDJs with a cycloops.

And At The Controls/Balance 005 are testaments to his ability to arrange tracks in an amazing way...

I've heard occasional good reviews, but my ears tell me otherwise - and so do the majority of reviews I've read from others who've seen him.

So I guess count yourself among the lucky ones

That's why I said "live"

PS - Random 'captain obvious' word of advice: If you're going to be involved in any kind of music/entertainment scene, prepare for phoniness en mass. It's life, oh well.

If that's all I thought he was doing, I might have thought differently of that interview, but my problem with it, besides the total lack of professionalism, is that he's making those statements under the protection of the 'I just want to be honest' guild. The contradiction, though, is that he's not even being honest with himself. He spent the entire interview trying to convince the interviewer that he was the one who made minimal, but he hasn't gotten the credit for it. Sure, he's not wallowing in anonymity (hell, I've bought a few things he's made before), but he certainly hasn't reached that top-of-the-genre cult status that guys like Richie can now claim, and to say he feels slighted by that is an understatement. He thinks he should be bigger than Minus and the rest of the scene, but he's not, and he's completely bitter about the whole thing. Before you can go out and make wild statements blatantly insulting the abilities of other artists, at the very least, you should admit to yourself just how you actually feel about your own work and your own career. It all wreaks of justifications for what he sees as achievement that fails to live up to what he thinks he deserves.
