Glad I was able to make it down for the closing party. I hadn't been there since the last time Chus & Ceballos were in town. The music was great all night. Jeff, I only caught the last half hour of your set but it was awesome. What a great way to start off the night. I really enjoyed Brad's set but Nevio lost me a few times since his set was up and down the whole time.
My first time seeing Cajjmere Wray & Johny White. Loved both their sets. Cajjmere just took it to the next level with some awesome tribal, which I was dying to hear all night. And then Johny played some minimal tech-tribal stuff that I was totally not prepared to hear but enjoyed nonetheless.
By peak time the music, people and vibe was at its best. Exactly what I love and will miss about this place. It was good seeing some familiar faces and partying one last time at Sonic. Bye-bye Sonic, thanks for the good memories.
March 10, 2007....one last memorable night....

...a night when the room was electric, including Jonny White...

...and when more than one of us -- including the almighty RJ -- had an out of body experience....

And so it ends. What does the future hold for this great old space? Stay tuned, same bat-time, same bat-channel...

Great end to a great year....
Much has already been said about this fantastic night, so I will be brief with my comments:
Jeff: Wow, you carried the crowd on a platter with your set. Very proud of you, sir. It was only spring last year when I remember you hauling your CDJ200s up to my place to play impromptu sets at the after parties...which then became extended sets well into Sunday afternoons...which became College St. gigs and the infamous Global Village parties...congratulations on such a rapid and well deserved evolution. You have worked very hard and stuck to your sound...and have become adept at reading the crowd and taking it on a trip. Saturday night showed that Jeff had both the depth and skill to play to a diverse crowd and keep everyone bouncing!
Brad Copeland and Cajjmere Ray also blew me away...excellent sets all around. I am not a huge tribal fan anymore but Cajjmere's brand kept me smiling and hopping. Brad is always a pleasure and didn't disappoint.
Nevio: Thanks for making the club happen and all the great memories. You played a great set as well...you are always a better closer than opener.
Johnny White: minimal techno is the most influential new sound right now and I love his track selection...didn't see a lot of Johnny as I was drained by then but I have seen him play Sonic a number of times over the last few months and loved it everytime.
To all my friends at Sonic...thanks for the great year! I know we will find a way to party together to great beats again but it is nonetheless with a heavy heart we say goodbye to this great club!
well well well.. i ended up making it at around 3:30!! what a friggen blast!!! was soo good to dance for one last time on sonics dance floor.. run into many familiar faces.. and just take in "what is house!" hahah.. good 2 see you all.. rach, tyler, grahram, jeff (thanks 4 glist), margaret & her lovely bau, gelareh (girly u surprised the hell outa me!), dave (finally got to dance it up!).. overall, just an awesome closing night.. you could tell that it was done.. but sonic will forever live on in our hearts.. and so will the musik! and talent we witnessed there.. until next time.. kat xo ps. cribbs you were missed.. sonic whore was missing.. i will see you next week! lol

Wowwww is all i can say about the closing party!!
still recovering lol hence how long its taken me to post a review lol but i had an amazing timeee
Got their around 1 and waited in line for about 20 mins, no worries i totally expected it lol payed $20 cover, well worth it, and preceeded to party the night away! Jeff was on fire man, his track selection and mixing was solid!! Nevio also blew me away...wow that place wuz Bumpin Bumpin!! Ended up stayin till 9am and what can i say, what a way to say bye to that place! The energey all night was definatly their, and everyone was committed to having an amazing time!
Just thinking about the place made me shed a tear today.

surreal
I can vaguely remember beeing dragged out to a club called boa redux to see some dude called scumfog spin. Jeff was merely a club patron back then and I would never have thought I'd see him behind the wheelz in such an establishment. All I can say is this guy continues to impress me, not only from the loyal following he gained as a promoter and now DJ, but more so the humbleness and lack of ego he maintains, which I can only assume is rare in this industry.
Without going into the grit of it all, the events leading up to Sat night were emotionally draining for jeff to say the least. And I know for certian he allowed himself no more than a few hours of prep time total for this event.
On most nights I think the track selection for an opener could have been considered over aggressive. But the energy in that place mos def called for it and shit,, I dont think it could've gone any better,, and I was proud as fuck!
This guy has a passion for what he is doing. And I can only assume that the effort he puts in is so everyone has as good a time as him. Surely all the love that was shown will validate his hardwork and dedication.
SLeeze-Bot , fuck

Wow, sounds like a really good time...sorry I couldn't make it...all you Sonic Boomers out there, don't worry, in club land, reincarnations take a few months...see all of youz soon...

Now that I finally feel normal enough to actually write something, here goes.
First I want to thank Nevio, Will, & Carey for all your hard work and dedication to this place over the past 11 months. Your love for the music and the EDM scene in Toronto is truly inspiring. A big thank you goes out to all the Promoters, Hosts, Gerry and all the boys that kept that place running smoothly, my ladies and gents in the Coat Check, the Door Staff and all the Bouncers. I still say we have the nicest staff in the city. This place couldnt have run without everyone involved.
Now on to the night
I had mixed feelings about this night as it came closer. While I was very upset that my second home was closing, I was also ok with it. I knew I couldnt miss the closing party of Sonic, so when 1am rolled around off I was to say goodbye.
I walked in at about 1:30 and the place was already rocking to the tunes that Jeff was laying down. Jeff watching you behind those decks was unreal babe. The track selection and flow of everything was just perfect. I have to say I think that may have been the best I have ever heard you play. The best part was seeing how comfortable you were while playing up there. It was almost like you have been doing it forever. I was saying to Liz while we were in the booth that it is so different being up here when it is one of your friends playing. I felt like a proud mom, hehe. Congratulations you Whore. I am glad that you got to play up there at least once and show everyone what you are really made of.
Brad as always was awesome. I couldnt stop dancing from start to finish. Wish I could id tracks, but I am the worst for that. Near the end of Brads set I decided that it was time to get up on the bass bin (its not called the podium)
I really wanted to be rested for Nevios set, so I was kneeling down waiting till he got on the decks. Once Nevio was up there it was go time. My favorite memories of Sonic are being up there just dancing like no one is watching I was very much looking forward to closing the club this way. But due to being kicked off by random sketchbags I only got to really enjoy being up there for about half of Nevios set, and decided it best not to try again
I was very happy to be up there for the fashion television tune though.
A little frustrated I decided to take a walk and find some peeps that were supposed to meet there. Found some of them at the back and decided to stay there for awhile. Because of the time change I was so confused as to why the night was just flying by as it was. The remainder of the night totally went by in a blur. Heard many good tunes from Cajjmere, but was totally beat after his set (I think I am getting to old for this) and decided that it was time to take off. Left the club at about 8am and felt quite satisfied with the way it went.
The crowd there was just perfect. The club was nicely full (where were all you f*ckers 2 months ago?) and the all the DJs played really well.
Thank you again to Nevio for bringing us such an amazing playground. Thank you to everyone that came out to support every weekend, and to those that showed your support in other ways. Sonic will be missed.
A side note: If you decide that you really want to be on the bass bin during a DJs set then do the DJ a favor and DANCE, dont just stand there
Oh and please dont just do the two step.
It was actually a really great party for such a sad occasion. I am glad I went because I had so many fun times in the space, it really did feel like home (comfortable) all the time.
It was nice to meet Gypsy.
See the Sonic crew out and about.
