Agrees with everything mentioned above and with what Davinox had said 100% But just because religion could be thought of as a sort of "safety net" for society, that is comforting to people doesn't make it a bad thing. If they are an atheist so be it, I have a friend who is one and had a debate about God with him, he is very similar to my belief system in that we truly believe what we are talking about. End of discussion. NO need for animosity of any sort in this topic. Why can't we be calm and rational? (and for those atheists don't assume religion is irrational simply because of a belief in a higher being) :P. Lashing out to what somebody is saying (even if it is against your beliefs) is useless because people will believe what they will and you can't change somebody in that way. My opinion...thanks!

My parents are the same way, they don't understand my music at all, therefore it is bad. (hmmm, sounds like some of the people on this board) If your dad is like this, no matter what you do, he probally won't ever understand. How long till you move out of his house? If not long I'd say just humor him for now, but if over a year, I'd try to work something out.

If you want to have a argument about religion, and you want people that aren't as ignorant as you to agree with you, you should make an effort to learn about both sides of the argument, not shove off religion and try and convince others that it is bad because you're lazy...

Why don't you explain to him about Christianity all the secrets he doesn't know?

I know a pretty good deal about Christianity, and constantly try to learn more, but I think Christianity is ridiculous, and that Damo's statement is cynical, but true.

Please tell the other side of the argument, as you put it.

You think it may be cynical, and I know it was intended as being cynical, but if you remove all traces of cynicism from that statement you are left with something pretty true... (confusing, I know).

The point I'm trying to get at is that there are more important things about Christianity, but people don't know so and hence the cynical comments.

Personally, I think people who won't listen to the other side's arguments are ignorant. Sure, accept your existence... I do too. But what does that have to do with what you're saying? People who believe in religion don't exist? Or they don't believe that they exist?

From a purely logical point of view I find the reasons for God's existence to far outweigh any other possibilities. Because I can reason, I'm ignorant?
