-- Phrasing*?

since every track has different structure (unlike hip hop) you would basically need to count the beats until the break down and mark it down somewhere...

so if a break down is only 64 beats long and you have an intro thats 128...you will need to start the track with the intro at the 64th beat or insert the track 64 beats before the breakdown...

Often though, those dropout parts can be incorporated into your phrase, I often use them to hide a surge in volume that's about to occur, or depending on the length of the dropout/reverse/whateveryouwannacallit, simply ignore it and remember that it is part of the overall "phrasing" of the tune.

I've got a few tunes that have 1 bar "dropouts" that you really can't ignore, due to them being outside of the 8 bar phrases.

For example, with these starting points:

8x8x1x8x8 (playing track, with 1 bar dropout)
8x8x8x8 (track to be mixed in)

this doesn't work without it sounding funny, with crashes or other events happening 7 bars apart followed by the same 1 bar apart.

but...

8x7x1x8x8 (playing track, with 1 bar dropout [i]after 7th bar of 8 bar phrase)
8x8x8x8

this can work out just fine as you mentioned, since all the phrases line up.

FWIW, the 2nd breakdown on Sophie Sugar's "Fallen Too Far" is a tricky one, watch where you throw in your next track!

Good to know.
