Agreed.. the best way to deal with homeless people is a shotgun.

The government should be cutting tax breaks for businesses that actually contribute to society instead of mooching off of it.

Hell I have a job too so why should I care?

RJ I know this isn't your character but you come across as exceptionally durogatory in this thread. Perhaps private messages?

Derogatory? Give me a break.

They should turn 'Turbo' into a homeless shelter - that location is cursed anyways...

Mind you, the boutique hotel being built a few doors down might object.

You will have to excuse my spelling but I think my point is still valid, people can read and come to their own decisions about things without needing to centre people out.

I think she did a pretty good job of centering herself out well before I posted my comment.

I also think you've mis-understood my intention: It wasn't to center her out. I was trying to say that some of her comments in this thread don't really "gel" with her personality (inconsistent might have been a better word than ignorant I suppose - either way, I digress).

Thanks for the clarification, and the acknowledgement about the word ignorant. That is a very strong word to use and what I was feeling was unnecessary.
I apologize for making a statement about you, I know you are not trying to hurt anyone's feelings, it was just that word that caught my attention.

To put a homeless shelter in that corner is crazy.

As for whether or not we should help the homeless people, I don't think anyone will disagree with doing that...or am I wrong and people honestly don't want to help others if they can (even in small ways?). I give change if I have it to a homeless person...or if I can't finish food/drink give it away.

I think we should have a TA fundraiser and lease the property and open a "Club TOTA"....

i don't agree.

Lisa's personality is exactly shown in this thread.

Just like Jon said. "Classic Lisa".

Lisa is coming across like a hippy that helps the homeless and that's exactly what i would imagine her to do.

On City TV yesterday they were debating this and the conversation turned into a discussion about how "putting a shelter on this corner is a good idea, the problem is the hooligans that come to the club district"

Hooligans or not, sometime someone in David Miller's office is going to finally understand that having a good entertainment/nightlife industry is beneficial to a city. Who wants to travel to a city where there is nothing fun to do?

It amazes me how easily any discussion gets turned into "the clubs are the problem"

I'll begin by saying that while posted under this thread, this thread is not the sole cause of the rant below, just the straw that broke the camel's back. Let's begin,

Perhaps we can all give the thread policing and villification of people's opinions and character, be it their real ones or those they project from the anonymous safety of a message board, a rest.

Let's keep to respecting one another here, we are all on the same team and 'winning' a debate on TA doesn't gain you any more respect, especially if done so by calling people out.

In my short time on TA, I've seen a shift in tone across this board. When I fist signed up, some veteran TA's expressed to me their frustration about these 'attacks'. I didn't see it.
Now, having met most of you and having some experience on this board, I find myself in the same boat.

This attitude some people carry is enough to make me want to write off TA entirely, if not for the social networking I get with people I know, people I call my friends and people that share my interests. And besides, why should those of us who come to TA for some good natured banter and information on events we might like to attend have to give it up because some people feel the need to qualify themselves as the smartest or coolest people on this forum?

Really folks, it's a message board.

Everyone needs to stop taking themselves so seriously and remember why they joined up in the first place.

I'm sure I'm going to get some smarmy reply to this so I'll save you the trouble...boohoo, stop crying, if you don't like it - leave, etc...Right? Well fuck you. I'm not saying this to elicit a reaction or to get any kind of discussion going on this, but it's a forum to post opinions and this is mine.

If Del were dead, he'd be spinning in his grave.

By that, I meant "here comes Lisa totally about to derail this thread from what the actual topic is"...

(Which just to re-iterate is about the geographical location of the shelter, not about the municipal welfare state)

he probably would be but not over the state of TOTA. it'd be to the TUNEs.

as for this thread... wow i didn't expect it to take the turns and twists that it did but that's what i love about this place.

You are completely missing the point...

It's not respect that is gained by winning arguments but points.
For every argument/debate/tiff that you win you get three points. For a tie each person gets one and for loosing you are deducted 10 points.

You can see from the inbalance in the point structure, that it is very important if you do get into a argument/debate/tiff that you win otherwise you will lose 10 points.

Points are redeemable at the TA Banquet for extra door prize tickets.

You don't get points but you do get two for one coupons for Subway.

Posted by Dr. DAS on Mar-29-2007 18:56:

Okay, I flew off the handle a bit there, but the point is valid.

Opinions, by nature, are infallible. You can't be wrong. Your point and belief might be wrong but an opinion is just that, and as such is not a right/wrong issue.

There are more effective ways to express your point than cutting down other people's points of view. A difference of opinion is an honourable thing and no topic needs to have one clear winner.

By the way Shanny, If I knew about the point system, I'd have been a much bigger bitch.
