Roms are exactly the same as the "real thing". Just get a game pad. For the longest time I had an NES and a stack of old games and eventually I gave them away because I preferred the Roms with features like save states and movies and configurable key combinations. You can execute some really crazy glitches on emulators that aren't possible on a real system without screwing around with the controller. Let's face it, these games only take an hour or two to finish and as such have pretty slim replay value; the only way to get more out of it is to mess with it.

As collector items they're fine - much more interesting than collecting stamps or some other lame thing. But really, hearing people insist that emulators just aren't the same is like hearing people insist that Dasani is better than Aquafina or that a 320 kbps MP3 doesn't sound as good as the original CD. It's all in your heads, people, nobody's ever been able to consistently tell the difference in a blind test.

tmnt 3 - his one comment on the movie review...i died laughing...

plus, the roms and emulaters i used to use at uni, i never found one i really liked for the NES or SNES...

another reason i dont like ROMs.. maybe if i found the right emulater... im sure better ones have since surfaced? no...

They've changed a lot. Try FCE ultra with a proper gamepad, I really think you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference, other than not having to blow on the cartridge and whack it on the floor 47 times before it will work.

Even SNES emulation is near-perfect these days with ZSNES. Playstation or N64, not so much...

3-4 years ago I got my X-Box modded and added an 80 gig hard drive so my friend could load it up with all the old games: virtually every NES, SNES, Sega and Atari games plus a bunch more systems, not to mention the countless game hacks (Super KKK Bros. anyone?).

It works flawlessly 99.9% of the time, better than NES games ever worked.. It was the one and only reason I picked up the X-Box.. the last system I ever bought (last one before X-Box was N64)
