actually contrary to popular belief all CD based media (yes this includes dvd, hd-dvd, blu-ray etc) does have a short life span of approx 10yrs because of the head that they endure from playing. this has been proven time and time again.

also buy 2? thats the point of fair use dumbass. so you arent paying for the same content you legally acquired in the first place! why should you pay the movie industry TWICE!?

im not going to argue with someone who is as much of a moron when it comes to this shit as you obviously are. run alone now.

Interesting...i have plenty of CDs i bought in the early 1990s that still work without any problems. Maybe you should use more care with yours.

Perhaps he meant from a total of ten years of play. Not ten years that you've owned the CD, but once a CD has been read for approximately ten years in total. Stop and think for a second.

That said, I have read plenty of times that CDs do have limited life. Someone will need to find an article here before either side can safely state that they are correct.

What? So you're telling me you wouldn't be pissed that if you spent $15 on a DVD and it broke accidentally and you needed to go out and spend another $15? You wouldn't? Honestly? Kudos to you, sir.

Also, being able to copy something that you own to whatever media device you own is legal. I've copied many DVDs of mine to my laptop when I've gone on a long car/train/plane trip before so I have something to do to pass the time. Why should I not be allowed to do that? What is so illegal about that? It's far more convenient for me to copy them to my laptop than it is for me to carry an extra DVD and/or CD case with me.

You mean a total of 10 years play time? i doubt after that long you would still enjoy the CD..lol.

Do tell me what is wrong with making a copy of something you legally own in case it gets damaged.

there is nothing wrong with that. I scratch discs all the time. tiesto14 is a noob, dont listen to him. whenever he comes into the c0r he gets owned because he picks a really shit side of an argument.

Posted by all-nite-freak on May-03-2007 00:56:

my friend buys dvd's, copies them and never touches the original. He paid for a copy, making it last poses no problem imo. You spend shitloads of $$$ on a box set like the sopranos, kinda sucks when they don't work anymore.

Oh, I know. And it's not just in the COR, either. I'm just pointing out the fallacies of his argument.

I bought 24 season 2, and my dog ate the entire thing.

I wish I copied it now.

if the dvd companies had a really big problem with it they would water mark them no? Piracy is wrong, but manufacturers do not lose out as much as you think. People still buy things, except in asian countries...nothing is real there.(in thailand ladies have penises

such a fucking idiot. you buy another cause you have no choice! you dont have the parts to fix it! you buy a dvd you copy it so that if it gets damaged, stops working, whatever, you can continue to watch it! are you that fucking stupid you cant even see the general benefit? are you so stupid and ignorant that you cant even see BOTH sides. its called OPTIONS. drm removes these options. drm creates a fascist media conglomerate that can then control the hardware and the software we use every day.

Why should Tom Cruise (or any actor/artist/athelete) take a pay cut? They earned what they made - they draw the crowds which draw the dollars...do you have any concept of economics?

This is assuming a perfectly balanced society. Did you choose to be born to a rich family and inherit your dad's company or did you choose to be born in Queens to a single mother whose husband is in jail?

That kind of conservative attitude makes me sick.

Actually, I'd like to ask you the same - do you have any concept of economics and/or law? You seem to be comparing intellectual property to physical property... I hope you've got a very good theory to back this up, otherwise your point is indeed utterly nonsensical.
