work is supposed to be serious business....... i can see how he wanted you to act professionally and stop the nonsense.

Hmmm. Well, it seems weird to have multiple employees on a shift, if you all have a bunch of spare time to fuck around with, right?

and no, of course i won't be a shit manager since i know how it feels to be treated like garbage.

But you don't seem to get (or at least show in your posts) what it's like to be a manager. If you see your staff goofing around and wasting time, are you going be either:

A: Haha, we're all having fun YAY!

or,

B: Why are you all fucking around, go do some stuff already, because that's what you're paid for.

well, i was promoted to the Shift Leader (which is basically an asst. manager) in hollywood vid. i 'was' asst. manager at a gas station, but i guess it doesn't really compare to more, eh, sophisticated jobs? Anyways, in a month or two, you'll all find out whether or not the job goes well for me.

You still didn't really answer my question

Just remember the mantra of every job you will ever have:

You are there to make the company as much money as possible.

The better you do this, in any job, the better you will fair in your career, whatever that may be.

If you have time to fuck around at work, then you have time to sort the working environment out better than it currently is, especially if you're in a supervisory position. It could be something complex, or something simple.

The 18 year olds, that make an effort to be good at their jobs, are the ones that eventually get to say "I'm 35 now, and don't work as a cashier."

Sorry for busting your balls I run my own business

yeh, like working out who fucks around the most so you can fire their ass because they're just eating up company resources. labour is usually the easiest way to cut costs.

To Dr. Cfire: Regardless of where you are in the developed world - work is work. You either do a good job or a shit job. That is a choice. My point is - at least we have that choice.

Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it.

on a side note, I should have mentioned that 'corey' literally screamed at us in front of customers. he'd always call us to 'critique' our so-called sloppyness (and I can assure you we did keep that store nice and tidy--it's not really a hard job) and would always end up cussing us out.

He even made one of our co-workers (jessica) pissed off to the point where she cried and left the store.

Why didn't I say all this at first? Because, the cor doesn't like long paragraphs.

well that would have been something you could of said to back up your reasoning for leaving. Im not saying screwing over the company is the only move, but i can understand its really hard to work for a manager that does things like that. Its very unproffesional to reprimand an employee in front of customers.

Not in the least bit, no. In retail you do have your slow days so you might not need to hustle or your tasks may be few. However, there's always stuff to do. Even if it's the most pointless, mindless task(s) you can think of you will always have something to keep you busy.

you literally were the fact why i shaved that shit off in the first place. i took a good look in the mirror and it became quite clear (to me, at least) that it made me look pretty ghetto. you make me feel so low about myself and my limited facial hair.

Any facial hair on a young'n looks weird.
