I'd hate to rehash what everyone else has said, but looks like everyone agrees... crappy sound system, skybar too small, he didn't play for long enough, lack of 'club' atmosphere, etc

onto the reviewing the sets... not a big fan of Mark's set, except:
Cosmic Gate - Should Have Known [Wippenberg Mix]... <3

Ferry's set had it's moments, but I agree the flow was a bit lacking at times. Towards the end he started picking up the power and then finished... I usually prefer the harder stuff towards the beginning to get you in the groove or in the middle of the set, and finish off with some mellower/beautiful stuff (ahem, where was Lemon & Einar K - Hope???)

oh, and can someone PLEEEASE ID the track he played right after FKN - Why?

some stuff I was glad Ferry played:

Daniel Kandi - Nova [Daniel Kandi vs Kris O'Neil Mix]
FKN - Why? (not sure on the remix)
Ferry Corsten - Fire, LEF, Galaxia, Beautiful
Gouryella - Gouryella

Encore: Art of Trance - Madagascar [Ferry Corsten Mix]... yeeeeeaaaahh

can't wait for Menno!

I am soooo ok with this idea, since Labour is an annual trip for me (this will be number 5 or 6 in a row, I cant remember!)

I will let you know (and I am sure lisa and laura will as well) how he plays in NYC on sunday.

ridiculously crowded.
It was ok though. Got a good spot by the front and didn't leave from there...first by choice then it didn't really matter. We were at the furthest corner away from the exit so we won't going anywhere.

Feels weird to say it but Dragonfly was better despite the lack of vibe there. Terrific vibe last night...wish they hadn't packed it in like that...though if i think about it, if they hadn't, i woulda probably not gotten in considered they closed the doors soon after i got there.

Hardly saw anyone cuz i was too busy balancing between my left leg and the bottle service rope.

sorry to hear it was so crappy but to be honest, what were you expecting?
first off, i think it was a little too hyped up (ya ferry on skybar is an amazing idea, but on a thursday? in toronto? where clubs are being hounded by the suits)

second, pretty much all of you know how big skybar is. to have someone like ferry come in and play there, it obviously is going to be packed, so really, there should be no complaints because all of you should have expected to be elbow to elbow.

third, ferry had played the night before in the same location (southern ontario). so hes kind of played the same group of people and also playing 2 gigs like that could def have an effect on quality of the set.

finally, as for the sound issue, def shouldnt have happened but shit happens. as jay mentioned earlier, skybar is open so sound quality wont be near as good as kh or guv.

all of these factors told me to stay home and im glad i did as i didnt expect too much coming out of the night. ill wait for his return (probably LOL?) dont mean to sound like an ass but just my thoughts

I had a good time last night because of you wonderful people.

It was a really nice change to be able to talk, and find out who people actually were, as individuals, rather than just dancing partners.

Oh come on, both of you!!! Obviously we were expecting a "good" time, or why else would we go??
I htink this is a cop-out so you feel better about not going! Cause no one can predict anything that can happen, and for all you know, if you did decide to come... YOU coulda had the best time out of everybody! Something to think about.

On another note, it's 1pm... time for bed

Posted by Orko on Jun-08-2007 17:10:

In terms of the crowd, it was not any worse than an average Guv night, but the front was just out of hand. I'm sorry I abandoned you Sam and Lauren, but it just got too much and I could not take it anymore.

Once I got a bit further back, it was fine. Crowd was pleasant and they came to dance and party.

Honestly the only thing wrong with the night was that it ended at 3am, other wise all was expected.

dude i thought u said u were goin to bed already hahaha

now that i think the night over again it was fun, good crowd, good tracks, nice weather

if it werent for ending so early an the shitty sound system i would've enjoyed it MUCH more

ok time to finally go to sleep...ha

Decent night...

-enjoyed that it was skybar, but didn't like the idea of packing everyone up there... a fuckin lineup to get back upstairs from drink? wth?

-ticket price for 2.5 hours of Ferry was a troublesome thing.. expected to see him play until 4am or later, no 3am!!

-was great to see some ol' friends & made a few new ones
-been quite a while since I've been around teh TA crowd at an event like this. We should honestly throw down cash together to get a bottle service & booth if there's so many of us... would make things great I think

-very happy with MO's set... dirtied up the dancefloor in prep for Corsten whom also dropped some damn good trance I've wanted to hear for quite a while in the skybar.

-I'm not likely to head there on a non-special-event night, unless I was coerced by friends

im REALLY pissed it ended at 4... i was expecting at least 4 or 5....

like everyone else said, the friends made the night

but...Higlight of the night: Catching Eddie Halliwell outside guv exchanging couple words and a handshake lol.....Dmitri that guy looks like Halliwell....

Was he there to catch Ferry Corsten? And does he dance like he does when he spins?

its all good man. We sorta got stuck there and were too tired to bother moving anywhere cuz it woulda probably ruined the night trying to walk through that mass. As always a pleasure partying it up with ya.

my first time at sky bar i was impressed despite alot of issues people are having. ferrys set was good, i didnt like how he finished it though. i wouldve expected it to end a bit more melodically. i loved mark olivers set though. i am at the skybar anytime there will be prog. theres nothing better in the summer then bein on the rooftop under the moonlight, looking over toronto, with the cool breezes, listening to good beats.

and wow i feel bad for some people. atleast 4 or 5 people said they were at thier peak when the party ended lol. thats not right sorry!

wow so many people just complain about the skybar. its cool if you had a shitty time or whatever. but i didnt even know the skybar exsisted till a llil while ago and this was my first time being on it. honestly i cant believe theres a place like that in toronto, we are very lucky to have it. i wanna keep going back there i had an amazing time despite some of the issues because the ambiance is still pleasent. so im gonna appreciate it cause i doubt theres anything else like that in toronto and if it shut down id be pretty disapointed.

Kris Kris Kris, I told all you facks before you went that it would be rammed jammed city, I love Ferry and probably seen him more times than most, I am the only one out of my friends who didnt go because I knew how it would be, even if the music was dead on I have been crushed up on skybar before and it is not fun.

no cop-outs here, I actually feel for you guys.

I expect a good time with your mother but when she is on her rag I know it wont be a good time.

First time at Skybar, first time seeing Ferry...I had a good time. I was totally expecting it to be that packed, but I wasn't expecting the sound that bad. I thought MO had a GREAT set minus the cutting out. They were hard to find, but once you found them, the pockets of people actually there for the tunes and dancing were a treat. Ughhh Start moving and stop standing around thinking you're so hot- if I wanted to look at statues I'd have gone to the art gallery

Overall good time, but Skybar NOT suitable for a big name like Ferry

It's going to be hard picking anything I even liked about last night.

First thing I'll mention is that the line was waaayyyy overhyped - we went in at like 12, and waited just a few mins in the very short line. Get there at 10pm my ass.

Once we got inside the main problem of the night presented itself - the crowdiness. It was way waaaayyyyy too packed. We could barely find a spot to stand, nevermind dance. Anytime you started dancing, within a few seconds you were either pushed, bumped into, moved aside, stepped on, or had to move to let somebody through. It was sooo frustrating. I mean, even if you wanted to enjoy yourself, you just couldn't. Half the time I couldn't even raise my hands over my head cause it was so packed. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO ENJOY HANDS-IN-THE-AIR TRANCE IF I CAN'T EVEN GET MY HANDS IN THE AIR??? I was thinking, "hey, If I get pretty wasted and go to the front of the DJ booth, I'll be able to rock out with the crowd no matter what". But no, in front of the DJ booth it was BRUTAL.

And the speakers sucked too. It was loud (if you were standing right next to one), but there was no bass, no OOMPH. And as soon as you stood outside of the direction of the speaker, the music would be drowned out by the voices. Meh.

Which brings me to my next point, WHAT WAS UP with all the FERRY WORSHIPPING that was going on? I've never seen this kind of fanboyism before. He actually stopped the music completely just so they could repeatedly chant his name. WTTTFFF??? I felt like I was at a Backstreet Boys concert. It'd be halfway acceptable if Ferry was dropping a HUGE set, but I don't think anyone will argue that his set was average at best. I'd much rather see a crowd go off to an artist by dancing like crazy (which was impossible because everyone was crammed in like sardines), than by standing there chanting his name like retards.

Goes without saying that I didn't enjoy the crowd either. Sorry if I wasn't really chatty with anyone (I must have seemed so dazed), but I was in that state of mind where you are in denial of what's going on and you're trying your best to just ignore it all.

And the last surprise of the night - the music was completely shut off by 3am sharp. I came to Skybar expecting Ferry to play till 4, then they would shut Skybar down and people would move to the Drink to finish their night. considering it cost $30, I don't think that was such a far fetched expectation. Instead, I was forced to leave the club at a measly 3am, 3 hours after I came in, still drunk and high. Wow.

Honestly, Guv has been disappointing me soo much lately. I don't want to sound like one of those vain arseholes, but I think they're going over the limit here. It's so easy to see that Guv just doesn't give a shit about its patrons AT ALL. As long as they get our money, that's all that matters. We have to put up with soooo much of their crap - the lineups, the constant overcrowdedness, misadvertisement of prices, the sketch, and it just keeps getting worse and worse. It's like the only person who actually cares about providing an enjoyable experience to the customers is the DJ. Especially when you compare it to clubs like FootWork whose staff go SO far to make sure everyone has a wicked time inside. After yesterday, I just feel like $30 was stolen from me.

In terms of music, highlights of the night were the same songs that were the highlights of the night when I saw him at Labour Of Love. That was 9 months ago. Ferry, please find some new records to play. It's great that you play the classic tracks, but there are A LOT of classic tracks to choose from. Dropping Punk, Doom's Night, and Galaxia everytime you come just gets stale.

So that's about it. Nice seeing Orko, Jeff, Lisa, and Andielips (holy crap it was awesome meeting you btw). Oh yeah, and Italian_poison, lol. Sorry if I missed anyone - I think I'm still in a state of shock over the night.
