ALRIGHT
PART 2!
Before I go on... i want to thank liz and sean for being GREAT sports as they crashed on my house on SAT but i wasn't able to meet up with them until midnight at footy when i went over to the foot to catch Rene.
My GF Mona (most of you know here) sean and liz... WERE BEYOND wicked... their support in everything i do really helps more then they'll ever know. I thank you for your help this weekend, couldn't do it without my family.
OKIE DOKE!
SO..
AT RENE.... ON SATURDAY, SPORTING D2tb HATS (courtesy by donation of SECOND SKIN!) celebrating SEAN'S BIRTHDAY
HAPPPPPY BIRTHDDDDDDDDAYYYYYYYY TRIBALLLLLLLLLLLFREAK!
(P.S. I gave you back your nickname without writing that you wanted to rape little boys or bomb IRAQ for OIL.... or whatever u AMERICANS are doing these days...)
So, after some drinks and chills.. we head home for the start of a VERY LONG DAY
my gf woke me up, with a kiss.... saying she'd be back at 2...
wicked.
so i get a call from T.S. asking if I wanted to hook up for some eats, sounds like a plan sir..... i tell him i got guests with me... he's down... so me, sean and liz go pick up T.S.
Now, T.S. running a little late.. it's 1pm....
so I head into the hotel, only to notice that pretty much EVERY PEFORMER at MMVA's are also in the hotel... VERY weird as entourages walk by me and not as I wait for the MESSIAH.
Sunshine comes out...
we walk to the car, quick introduction.. and we choose to eat at Baton Rouge.
We order food.... the waiter asks if one of us is a DJ after over hearing how IN DEPTH music discussion (ASK SEAN, T.S. music knowledge is without question, beyond VAST)
We eat some grub and head back towards the car... I ask Tommie to sign some hats for the raffle....
I ask him if he wants to go see one of his MSTRKRFT buds (jesse) who just had a baby girl (LIKE LITERALLY JUST HAD.. T.S. was giving me play by play... 14 hours of labour I think? CONGRATS ON THE HEALTHY BABY GIRL.. BTW..

ANYWAY.
Tommie just wants to wonder the streets of T. dot, check out a store or two.. i offer him cab money but he graciously declines and tells me i'll see him later.
WE RUSH HOME....
I take 15 minutes to myself - MIXMAG ON THE TOILET.. BABY I'm in HEAVEN
have a quick chat with the GF
(WHO, YOU PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW WAS A VITAAAAAL PART OF Dance 2 Da Beat 2.. Mona put up the money up front I needed to pay Sunshine and it was a pretty penny, not to mention all the love and support and dealing with my stressful ass... the girl is a godscent... love her to death...)
and get to raffling...

TIME RUNNING OUT
I THROW ON THE WRISTBANDS
arrange a pick - up with KELLY RICHARDSON (ANOTHER VITAL VITAL part of D2tb 2, Kelly volunteered and CAME THROUGH with EVERYTHING i needed from prices on various items, helping sort out the mental organization that is D2tb 2... Thanks Kel, you were HUGE and VERY APPRECIATED (and also worked door for hour 1)
so, i told kel.. i was running late..... told her to grab a cab and i'll cover it since i told her i'd give her a ride (ONLY FAIR PEEPS... BE A PERSON OF YOUR WORD!)
on the text with Nathan and Cat (HOUSEADDICT PEEP in my FINAL MINUTES OF PREP)
Cat said the VIBE on the boat was wild and she was lining them up to march to D2tb 2.. Nathan says Zone was buzzing...
i was LOOKING forward to it all... sounded mad promising.
got in..... stored the cake (they delivered it to JOEL an hour prior... BAM... we're getting ready..
JON JON walks in..... we discuss, JON JON was UBER STOKED.... i'm so glad he was part of this event, love the guy... good heart on the man... we shoot the shit, he DROPS first track as I finally FINALLY meet Irgz
who meets me with a GIGGITY GIGGITY...
gotta love it.
SO BAM, people start strolling in... Joel gives me a LOAD of tickets, I had them all out.... I won't be drinking, I got too much shit on the go.
I do have the odd shot here or there... thanks to all those who grabbed me one... mega love!

I was just happy all the DJs who participated, participated... AMAZING OF YOU FOLKS... it BE NOTHING without you... D2tb 2 is about having a GREAT party and in the end, raising MONEY for a cause... DANCE FOR A REASON, DANCE FOR A CAUSE (Which is actually a Stever TRADEMARK as he reminded me) His motto btw, must admit.
so, i'm outside.. knowing it's the Nathan Barato and Baby Joel time slot... when I see JOEL against the wall outside....
he's like "ummm.. I forgot my records."
I think "oh fuck, well I guess play some of nathans..."
at the same time..
I get a TEXT MSG from Nathan saying YOUR surprise is here

I look at Joel and he told me "he found a replacement"
so I walk up to the DJ booth
to see a FAMILAR FACE... but SOMETHING WE IN TORONTO HAVE MISSED AND YEARNED FOR.. for a REALLY,REALLY, REALLY long time...

Peaking from behind an entourage of CARLO LIO, VINYL JUNKIES AND NATHAN BARATO stood ... ADDY!
THE RETURN OF MOTHER F'N ADDY TO DANCE 2 DA BEAT
THE FIRST HABIBI and it went from a chit chat party to a fucking MAD RUSH of BODY PARTS SWAYING to his every beat.
F'N RIGHT...
THE PERSIAN PERFECTION RAWKED THE F'N DECKS...

Nathan gave him center stage as he later told me he has NO INTENTION of playing once ADDY hit the decks... which is why you gotta love the BARATO, never about himself... about the music, the scene.... and really (as I keep saying this) a CRUCIAL part of D2tb.
EVERY IDEA, EVERY CONCEPT... went through Nathan.
From getting the permission from GUV to use their talent, from getting in contact with JOEL AND STEPH originally.. without him it was an idea, with him.... it became an event.
WHEN Addy gave that 5 seconds of SILENCE... A GIVE IT UP FOR ADDDDDY was yelled by me and that place ERRUPTED..
I went outside and the WORLD was asking me "HOW I GOT ADDY TO RETURN"
My response "I'm more SHOCKED THEN YOU.. I didn't even know he was playing!"
Bes and Liz continued getting donations for CDs which was WICKED..
SYD, SEMINARA, NANA, CORY HEATH, JASON MYLES AND NIC FANCIULLI all contributed time and effort into the CDs.. WICKED guys.. thanks!
and the GIRLS were on fire... and if u see liz or bes, how on EARTH can you say no to either?

so at 11:30... I grab my good buddy larse and head over to pick up the surprise GUEST...
he ran a little late... he apologized but in his words "I guess no intro, no set up, no build.. i'm just going right into the fucking thing"

so we arrive
and THE DOORS ARE LOCKED!
BESMA runs like CRAZYYYYY around the club looking for an owner, a bouncer wouldn't open the door (it's cool, not his fault.. no one told him) we finally get in and Sunshine takes STAGE..
now the GENERAL mutter was OMG.. THAT'S TOMMIE SUNSHINE..
and
OMG.. JESUS IS SPINNING
Either or, Sunshine or Jesus.... we had shocked the WORLD...
SUNSHINE DROPPED IT....
at one point, I stood beside Nathan... said "wow, this is surreal..." and literally wiped a tear from my eye...
Sunshine then whispered "this track is for you ... listen to the chorus"

we all pack up, liz, sean, mona, nathan, bes all still around...
I drive Tommie to the airport.. he told me he had a KILLER time... and gave me his digits and told me to keep in touch
but before going
tells me his set, in his mind... all he thought was he couldn't disappoint me or my mother's memory...
and i sat there in silence.. thinking I picked the ABSOLUTE PERFECT DJ for this event... and the ABSOLUTE perfect individual.
I was a Sunshine fan.... but truly, now I'm a Tommie Fan.
We called it a night...
I head back to my house, hang with the lizard, butcher and mona... and sit in awe as you guys MADE D2tb 2 a SUCCESS

amazing review buddy. it was an honour to be a part of the whole experience from my perspective. the way u went from a partier with ideas (and lots of partiers have ideas) to an event planner was pretty impressive
congrats on everything man

Shanny, Graham and I were at zone when Addy spun his last set 9 months ago, ironically we were all standing there when he came on to the decks. I looked around at everyone's faces and there were some faces still in shock but of course smiling.
Dave, thanx for bringing a cause to the scene. It was a success. And I love the cake tradition. Next time hopefully it's for YOUR birthday!

Dave, reading the parts about Addy and then driving Tommie back to the airport gave me GOOSEBUMPS.
What an amazing night, so many people, so many friends - all together for such an amazing reason. The music was incredible.. Addy.. wow. I got to see so many people I haven't seen in forever! I admire all the work you put into this, all of you - it could not have been more perfect.
Dave you did your mom insanely proud.

The book idea is something I thought of a few weeks back, it's hopefully to have some sort of projection and have the names scroll down in future Dance 2 Da Beats...
to celebrate their lives, their battles and what they mean to us, then and more importantly now.
I thank you all for the kind words... and the support, this event is something that's very fun to run, however could be stressful.. but having the support of so many makes it more of a pleasure then a pain.
