I can usually handle quite a bit of whatever the soup du jour is when I'm on the decks, the trouble usually comes after I'm off them.
Sometimes it's as if I go from 0 to 
in the time it takes me to put the cans away.

its the drinks during the set that really fuck you up... cuz during break downs, or when you've beatmatched and ready to mix, and so on, you stop take a few sips & chill out. And if that happens often enough (which is always does) you'll be messed out of your mind. hahha
Tomorrow night I'll be playing at a lounge with $3.50 imports I think... its gonna be an interesting night. lol
the drinks are ok, im usually too busy to pay attention to my drinks... i can barely pay attention to anything more than the decks and the dancefloor when im on...
i can mix fairly well (albeit differently) on a variety of substnaces..
it's always interesting what i mix on what lol
as much as the promoters will give me in drink tickets

i mix sober. i party sober too. every once in a blue moon, i'll enjoy something to change things up... but i want to enjoy it. i don't want to kill my horny by dj'ing, and all the work that comes with while you're mixing.
Strangest thing I have ever seen in terms substance abuse whilst DJ is a DJ who is well known in the south for his deep house sets (wont mention his name as it's a friend).
Tripping his ass off during a set and getting so bad that at the end he actually forgot to carry on DJing one of other DJs had to step in because he was too busy trying to get it on with his new records. Yup you heard me.
His last words before it got too obscene were "Man you are the best tunes ever, I'm so glad I bought you, I know your love isn't for sale but if you were a woman I would make love to you".
You also have to imagine someone with two pupils the size of dinner plates looking at this record as if it was the love of his life...
I wont go into any more detail but he had to be escorted from the premises buttnaked and his rather paniced GF carrying what could be found of his clothes and his record bag.
That's why you should never do acid whilst spinning.
If I hadn't known him it would probably be very funny but it's actually quite disturbing that someone can get into that state.
My own personal disaster is throwing up in my record bag on new years eve at a house party, taking my records to the bath room, washing them with soap and water, carried on playing but became transfixed by the little spirals of soap that came spinning from the needles as I played. Too much alcohol, too many pills, too much K, too much poppers and too much coke.
Me and my friends used to go on some real mind benders, and we didn't have any plan when it came to substance abuse, you took it because you could.
Some of my friends never made it past those years, they either want on to heavier drugs or died as a result of a drug induced accident or driving a car whilst wasted.
I don't want to sound preachey and I know I said it once before, but folks be careful when you party out there. Read the signs and however invincible you feel you are, I can assure you that you are not.
Anyway, grandad Nem is about to shut his trap.

I have a pretty strict policy about making sure I play sober. Sometimes a drink before my set but thats about it.
usually have a drink or 2 before my set and one or 2 more during, definitely play better when slightly buzzed. get more into having fun and the whole rhythm of things instead of technicalities.
