You can either post it up on sites like sendspace/rapidshare or you can find someone to host it for you.

Yup, but it's probably one of the two tips that have made the biggest difference in my skills (the other being NEVER matching two tracks in your headphones, because you never know when the day might come when you mix on a mixer that won't allow you to cue more than one signal at a time, like is the case on the original Rane rotary style mixers).

I made the change to headphones as que-only. My beatmatching was off a bit (more than usual). Is that normal at 1st?

Thats pretty normal, as you are adjusting your ears to hear one track in one ear and the other track in the other ear. It takes a while to "train" your ears to separate the two songs in your head.

I'm still having trouble with it myself, as most of my practice time is spent in the headphones only (can't have the main output too loud)

Are we still on for Sat? I'll email you guys about it.

yup. it does take a while to get used to that. in the off chance that you're monitoring off a hi-fi receiver, make sure there are no delays set up (like in the surround sound settings). Things like that will DEFINITELY make things sound a bit off.

The biggest thing is training your ear to know if your cue is slow or fast with this method. The good this is that our ears are EXTREMELY sensitive to L-R signals, so you would be best off to have your monitor speaker opposite your headphone ear. If you put the headphone on your left ear, make sure your monitor is hitting your right ear. This way it will be MUCH easier to tell which is which when you're learning.

But again, don't rely on the ability to have the monitor only on one side of you, as you may end up somewhere with a stereo booth monitor setup that can't be panned to one side. Always learn how to play different ways and then you'll be able to adjust as needed so you can play anywhere on any type of gear/booth.

Posted by Zild on Jul-04-2007 18:45:

Or if you have headphones with good isolation then it doesn't matter which side the monitor is on. I prefer to have my headphones on my left ear and many times the monitor is on the left side of the booth, but I'm still not comfortable adjusting which ear I use the headphones with dependent upon the monitors location.

If they don't have monitors I will not mix with both ears in the headphones. I get much better results still using one ear in the headphones and listening to the system on the floor even if there is a slight delay it isn't anything major.

You'd be surprised at how many clubs DON'T have monitors, so its a good idea to learn to mix with the main speakers also...

Sad but true, especially for smaller lounges. I hate it when that happens. I usually mix entirely in my headphones when there are no monitors. If they don't have monitors, I doubt the place would have a Rane mixer, so single-channel cueing to headphones has never been a problem...yet.

Good times today guys.

Posted by Dojomaster26 on Jul-08-2007 04:40:

Oh yeah, I had a lot of fun hanging out. Eric, next time bring some records so you can have some spin time.

I took a couple of pics. I will post them as soon as I get my phone->USB cable from NC, which will be Saturday.

I'm looking forward to doing more things in the area
