lol where are the headphones

maybe some of you know Girl Talk (greg gillis)

he's all the rage with the hipsters in Ithaca where I go to school and I opened for him when he came up.

fool played a completely prerecorded set out of cool edit and then acted like a maniac. at one point he took off his clothes, took a jack-o-lantern and put it on his head and then jumped into the crowd all why he was supposedly 'mixing'.

at least he doesn't call himself a deejay haha

I know a lot of people who think his live performances are the greatest thing they've ever seen... fucking hilarious to hear this

What a twat. It's people like this who give Dj'ing a bad name, and is one of the reasons EDM has trouble with being a respected artform.

Not using headphones, doesn't mean anything though - I saw Cassius at pacha ibiza last year and even though his set was shit music-wise, his mixing was crazy, tight and without headphones.

People obviously love it and he gets everyone goin nuts. I think I would have a blast at one of his shows!

do u think everyone would of still loved it if they all knew he was faking it? the reason why they are going nuts is cause they all thought he was actually djing.

Right. It has absolutely nothing to do with how he acts while he is in the booth.

We all know what a magician does is fake, yet we all act so fucking amazed every time the rabbit comes out of the hat.

thats a shit comparison a magician intrigues us we dont know how he has done it it takes skill to pull of a good magic trick. What skills is this guy using to put in a mix cd and jump round like a twat?

Of course we do. Or at least I do and I started the thread.

So he used to be in New Order? What relevance does that have? It doesn't qualify someone to stand up and make an arse out of the whole DJing thing. I wouldn't expect Tony Wilson to automatically qualify to do lead vocals for the Happy Mondays just through his association with the whole movement.

Actually, I would say that you are one of the few.

I have never come across him in my time as a DJ. And judging by what I see in the thread, I hope I never do on a proffesional level.

But you have to say this, ok he acts like a tool but he must know how to build a set even if it's done at home or it wouldn't work in the club.
Would I go and see him... maybe, even if it's just out of curiosity. But I tell you what, some of you should definately lighten up and not take his actions so seriously.

He is a fake, I have to say it, and people come unstuck sooner or later. Although he may just have opened up a whole avenue of entertainment, i.e. watching the wrecked geriatric tweak a mixer to death.

In the imortal words of Maximus Decimus Meridius (Yes I know it's Russell Crowe and Maximus is actually a work of fiction)... Are you not entertained?!!

You guys are probably right though. It is a bit of a farce.

Any of you seen him live? Cos I have, n its Peter Hook, n it fucking rocked. I had my suspicions about whether he was actually mixing, but fuck it, he was playing tunes you just don't hear anywhere else n the crowd (1500 ppl at an outdoor festival) were going absolute mental.

Usually I'd care if a DJ was doing this, but the tunes were wicked, n his stupid moves were taking the piss of other DJs the entire time - hence, a fucking fun party!

Maybe he's so good that he don't even need headphones...

I need to start mastering this skill

Posted by CashMoneyHoes on Jun-29-2007 07:31:

yeah he's fakin it

Posted by Dj Spiel on Jun-29-2007 08:06:

Wow---

Guy doesn't look like he's mixing ... but at the end he is there and we are all here. He seems to move the crowd and is a successful musician. I give him credit where he deserves it...he needs to work on his dance skillz though

Posted by Whip_lash on Jun-29-2007 09:13:

Well its kinda obvious why he pre-records his sets... if he didnt he wouldnt have enough time to pull off his crazy dance moves and act like a fool up there..

he is there because of his skills as a bassist, new order/joy division and wotever other bands he was part of. not because he is a faking DJ lol.

put it this way, if it was just some random bloke with no previous claim to fame doing shit like this he would be pelted to death or somethin.

wot a crock of shit, i say

Posted by 2tall on Jun-30-2007 03:23:

wow, i couldn't watch that... please make it stop.

TLMFAO

Posted by discobiscuit on Jul-01-2007 06:10:

this thread is soo funny! i know he's faking it, BUT there has to be something we're not being told... i mean this guy has mad gigs and plays to large crowds. i watched all the videos and dont see him doing anything but eqing (fake eqing). i read some of his myspace page and people love this guy. my best guest is that he remixes and mixes the songs at home/in a studio and then plays them at the clubs/venues.

Posted by Shini on Jul-01-2007 13:17:

LOL, I want some of whatever he is on.

on a more serious note though, the crowd seemed to be getting a kick out of it though even if it was a prerecorded set so he is doing his job no?

Posted by A.B on Jul-01-2007 18:44:

How the mighty have fallen...........

He is now an overweight, sweaty, fake piece of shit!
I dont give a fuck who he is. He is a waste of space and should hang up his headphones in shame!!....................oh hang on

What was the song he was playing in the Hong Kong vid?

Aye, I think you are right.

I think what probably offends people here is that he is prettending he is something he is not i.e. a live DJ.
But as you correctly pointed out, the crowd in some of those clips seems to be going mad, especially when blue monday comes on.

People seem to be enjoying themselves through the music and watching his antics.
I have been playing around with this one for a while as I wasn't sure how I felt about it.

I have arrived at the conclusion that the minute we start telling people how to enjoy themselves is the moment that we disapear up our own arse and ultimately loose the interest of the clubbers. Which so often happens in the DJ world.

To the haters...
Some stated that he is doing what many wish they could i.e. have a club eating out of the palm of your hand. There is no use in getting bitter and twisted about it, with that mentality you will never get to where you want to.

Stop fussing so much about what other people are doing and focus on your own shit!
