I was raised by my grandmother when I was 5-12, then after that by an aunt and uncle until I was 17. Can't really complain, I wasn't poor, hungry or abused.

i was raised by my mom and dad until the age of 12, then my dad decided to split and my parents got divorced... just as i was getting into my "terrible teens" phase.

there were a few years in there when things were pretty fucked up with my family for a while, and it definitely didn't feel normal or conventional... but i wouldn't say it ever felt like a broken home. if anything, things were a lot better after my dad left.

growing up, my entire childhood i only had one friend whose parents were still together. seems like everyone i knew came from families that dealt with divorce or had parents that never even married. it was just kind of the norm for me... which made it even weirder when i moved to Wisconsin and learned that all my new friends came from happily sane and normal families, lol.

lol i ran away when i was 13 too, but i didn't know where to go so i walked around my city for a few hours and then got picked up by a cop and got to ride in the front seat of the cop car. was definitely a highlight of my early teen years.

lol running away when you are young was so lame. I always had to end up feeding the kids that ran away with like popsicles and granola bars

I just never saw the reasoning behind running away, why not just milk your parents for all that they have...

well the reason i did it was because my dad was babysitting me and he was being a jerk so i told him i was leaving until he was out of the house. he let me walk right out the door (it was like 9pm on a school night too, lol) and when my mom got home a few hours later she flipped out because i wasn't there and she called the cops to look for me.

i even packed a bag with some snacks and an extra change of clothes. i dont know what i was thinking.

When I "ran away" I was literally gone for 20min. When I was 8 I got in trouble for slamming my little sister into a door...anyhow packed a bag on a stick (like in the cartoons) with my favorite Barbie a couple changes of clothes for Barbie and kleenex . Got three houses down realized I was an idiot turned around and nobody ever found out . I have a fantastic family no point in ruining anything.
