He has ups and downs but when he's on point everyone knows he's the shit. Sometimes he has some really good shit in his record box, sometimes not so good, but he usually plays pretty interesting music and presents it in an interesting way. His ableton setup and the way he uses it is also much more refined and interesting than when he first started.

Like people said, its not something you can get from a live set.

And ANF, a set full of ID's is very rare these days...its just what happens when EDM collides with the internet.

Well that worked.

In any case, I'm pretty sure you'll never like Sasha because him and others like him just dont play the kind of music you like.

oh i think hes the shit...i just miss the obscure tunage.

What I love about the old Sasha sets is that he could do unique things with tracks even if you recognised them. I love it when he'd make a medley out of two or three mixes of one track to make one extended mash-up of a track you couldn't get anywhere else.

I def wish he'd do more of that in Ableton. He does it now and then and sometimes at the end of a long set...but thats it.

I don't keep up with him anymore, so I didn't want to comment on his new sets.

Posted by all-nite-freak on Jul-04-2007 01:01:

i'll agree although it still can be done albeit harder and risking the integrity of a mix to be obscure is pointless. i concede.

Everyone love the live at bonneroo or whatever its called...im like meh...i can id most of the set...to me a sasha set should look like this.

unknown
unknown
unknown
unknown
unknown
unknown (sasha edit)
unknown
unknown
unknown
unknown

...so yeah def dont think of him as the barometer in freshness anymore....but when you have been on top for so long sooner or later you will be there without being the best

Dude, the Bonnaroo set is like 1/4 unknown tracks. That's pretty much unheard of these days

its been sitting in the tracklist forum for over a week...at the very top...11 pages strong:

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...35&forumid=6&s=

try IDing tracks 7, 8, 22 & 24...all massive tunes dropped by Sasha..you can tell cuz of his signature Ableton effects on them.

Posted by all-nite-freak on Jul-04-2007 03:14:

Posted by plaxx on Jul-04-2007 04:01:

how we doin with those IDs all-nite-freak?

Posted by all-nite-freak on Jul-04-2007 04:03:

still waiting on the set to finish downloading its fucking slow and my crate is working too

Posted by RebeL9 on Jul-04-2007 04:29:

I used to really enjoy Sashas set's even If I thought he lacked something in track selection compared to Digweed. Haven't been following his sets for the last 3 years or something since I find his "new" style immensly boring.
But I wouldn't really say he is overrated. Overrated djs are people such as Oakie and Tiesto. These guys can't even mix properly and their track selection is often a big fuckin mess and people still make pilgrimages to see them regardless the ticket price.

Posted by all-nite-freak on Jul-04-2007 04:56:

at 39 minutes sounds like a track that is getting released on border community...i cant remember the name but looking...the first 2 no fucking clue.

and im sorry but this is a fucking boring set just not enough movement and buildups to nowhere imo.

Finally someone says it

Everybody knows it, but few people ever say it. Yeah, there's the whole thing of, "It's how you play other peoples music," but the real basic gist of it is that most of the music isn't yours. Moby said it best, in my opinion.

It was at a book signing and I asked him that, having made a name for himself by being a DJ, what he thought about people such as Tiesto selling out 20,000-capacity arenas for eight hours. His response was, "I wouldn't feel good if I were in that position, and I never have. A DJ plays mostly other peoples records, why should they cheer for me and chant my name during tracks I didn't even create?"
