Yeah I guess DJs are now using the aesthetics and skills appeal of Vinyl to get ahead and develop a name, instead of relying on technology to induce creativity by making the mundane things simple.

DJ's do and will always still use vinyl at some points in time. It was the way a lot of DJs were brought up. Not all DJs turned there back on the feel of traditional mixing. That isint to say there scared of the technology either.. Personally i use all 3 (Cdjs, Ableton, And Turntables).

Theres still so many things you can do authenticly on Turntables, Theres still rare records avaliable only on Vinyl, Still the feeling you get from walking from the train station all the way into the other side of town - Purely to get that 'One record' like a commited DJ should. And not everybody can find it in them to boogy down to a DJ sitting there with a laptop in his hands.

Vinyl has taken the backseat yes, But dead? I disagree.

Perhaps not dead but dying. More and more I see no turntables at venues or the turntables being used to set a CD wallet or laptop on. It wasn't like that just a few years ago.

Aslong as DJs are around, So will turntables. I whole heartedly agree that they're definately taking a backseat. Why shouldnt they? With a laptop or CDJs you can express yourself musically SO much more than ever before. We need that in the DJ world..

But vinyls not dead nor dying. It's only taking a backseat.. I think its great that we're now having more ways to express our music. Ableton makes so many things easier.

And for the sake of the thread - In all those photos, Techs are being used. But i still stand by earlier claims that Stanton make qaulity decks.. Stanton is my choice.

And some people choose Techs.. Who cares?

actually, i have a stanton belt drive turntable w/a straight arm. there are a lot of records that i can not play w/this TT. the arm will just skip, and act like if playing a broken record. yet the same record plays thru just fine on the other gemini "S" arm i have. they play fine on the M5G's i'm using right now.

also, the comment you quoted was about shit dj's needing bells and whistles on turntables, and mixers to try to fool themselves and others that they are actually good. give a shit dj a TT w/200kg's of torque, give him a TT w/+/-50% pitch control, give him a flanger, "colors", or "filters"... a shit dj, is just that, a shit dj.

doesnt actually concern the discussion because a f$cking belt-drive Stanton is not a direct competitor to Technics 1200, neither is the mention of the straight tonearm. i'm pretty sure that all belt-driven TTs suck hard but have you had the experience of playing on a Stanton ST.150/T.120C.. believe me THEY ARE AMAZING and mixing with them is a breeze!!!

so what? i had stanton directs, and numark directs... both brands i used had the same problem w/not being able to play certain records. i had to return them. i think the longest i had these tt's were probably a week. then bought the m5g's. -problem solved.

i find it hard to belive that i got some 3-4 lemons in row from guitar center.

yeah... every TT i have used from 1994-2005 worked great... then i totally forgot how to do it, set all of these wrong... then when i bought the m5g's in the summer of 2005 i finally rememebered how to set up turntables again.

that sounds about right.

also, the records that were un playable all skipped in the same place on ever single TT, like clockwork. yet, the gemini, and techs play them just fine. maybe one or two of them i was able to get a "problem" record to play all the way thru with a loud pop w/some rediculus setting, like a pound of wieght on the cart... but that's not how i want to treat my records, nor do i want to mess w/the tonearm/cart settings every time i change a record.

remember, i didn't say all my records skip... just a good portion of them. enough to make me alter sets to the point where i can have a "problem" record land on the gemini, instead of the stanton/numark TT by adding or not playing songs i was originally planning to play.

but now i have techs, so i don't care anymore.
