Not always, no. I'm more expressive, exagerrated and amusing when I speak and I find those things hard to portray when typing. You can't really express hand gestures and subtle facial expressions which are important when speaking to someone, in what you type.

Nah, I don't usually talk english in everyday life.

Posted by Gauss on Jul-12-2007 18:19:

No... Here I type English and in real life I talk Croatian.

lol. not at all.

I have a brooklyn accent... so cahffee, sounds like cawffee, and I hardly talk about sex lol.

I tend to post in either a fairly retarded way or in a fairly eloquent, educated manner

in my everyday life I'm very "educated" in the way I talk.
At least 3 times a week this girl that handles the phone calls at work is confused by some of the words I use and she asks me what they mean

As a matter of fact when I hear her on the phone talking to customers it makes me want to cringe. She speaks like a dumb slut.

Due to my fluency in German, I have been told I speak English with a German accent.
ACH SO ICH WERDE POLEN UBERFALLEN.

you know, I'm astonished that people can master English so easily when many of us who speak english struggle with other languages. I sometimes forget that many people speak english as a second or third language

my only question would be, is it what you'd call a typical british accent, or something new to u ?

No, my posts are usually much more refined than my speech. This isn't to say that I speak terribly, because I don't. I just communicate more concisely in writing.

Posted by Yohan on Jul-12-2007 22:51:

Pretty much.

I talk less IRL than online though. And slightly more polite.

Unless I'm drunk. Then all bets are off.

Posted by TranceGiant on Jul-12-2007 22:59:

I use less smilies offline

Posted by Intellekshual on Jul-12-2007 23:07:

100% yes.
I talk exactly like I type.

Who knows...

But basically, people whose native language is English don't really have a need for second or third language. Other people, on the other hand, do. Maybe it's because we're "forced" to learn it. The fact is, without English you're nobody outside of your own country. Many jobs expect knowledge of at least 2 foreign languages, preferably English and German. I have yet to learn German, but I probably will one day. Right now I know the basics.

(Btw, I'm far away from mastering English. But I'm very good at it, best in my class too.)
