Ya, because it's populated with crackheads, weirdo's, bums, criminals, etc.

Not really, no. Because of the few million people that live in Los Angeles alone, a few hundred are bound to be fucked in some way. Whether it be financially or mentally.

Great suggestions in the thread...sorry this happened to you bro. It will make us all more alert in the future. My buddy took your experience and suggestions of others and posted it as a bulletin on myspace.

yeah dude, in that neighborhood just north of the b'buster & kfc, right by the corner of selma and ogden.

bas--my instinct just kicked in and i didn't use my noggin, but yeah, in hindsight i should've ran in a zig-zag pattern.

Another HUGE mistake that most people make is letting their guard down when they are on vacation. For some reason or another they just shut off their judgement and common sense because they are on "vacation" and assume that they are safe. Tourist tend to walk down alleys they wouldn't walk down at home or venture down to areas they know would be trouble back in their city. It blows my mind!

One thing I do often - if I assume if I'll be in a rough area at some point I carry a small second wallet with me with fake money or small bills with look alike cards, just so I have that to give away.

Sorry to hear about your night, fortunately you made it out of there with no harm to yourself

next time bust out with the tae bo

Lets be realistic here, when someone point a gun to your face you dont have time to think, which wallet should I give this mugger? I usually am armed and I can see how even then any martial arts training would mean jack and shit. If you see it coming of course you have time to think, but most if not all of the time, you don't see it coming. I am one of those people that doesn't freeze up on extreme situations but when you are being violated in this nature, you literally feel like you are not gonna make it home that day. Its the aftermath that makes it even worse when you just can't stop thinking of what you could have done to avoid or respond to the situation.

You may have took the tae bo part too literally, that was there more for sarcasm and amusement. On a serious note I don't actually advise anyone to react physically in a gun confrontation. As for the second wallet scenario, its something you more so plan for, meaning don't set yourself up for something where you'd have to think about it. Also it doesn't exactly mean you have to carry two wallets. You can use the wallet as a decoy and place what matters to you elsewhere. When 'travelling in general' all that really matters is cash, which you can just keep in your shoe or sock.

I seriously have no worries about getting mugged where I am.

Guys walk around with big ass LV wallets hanging out of their back pockets and drunk girls walk around alone at night sometimes.

Not to say that it NEVER happens, but it must be so rare that you can basically say that.

That's because no one in Japan wants to get their arm sliced off with a katana.
