and also....

Wipeout 2(Wipeout XL) and Wipeout 3.
They are on the old playstation system, but even if you don't have a PS, the system has always been very easy to emulate on a PC (and they usually run faster+cleaner).
http://www.epsxe.com/news.php

It's a futuristic racing sim with hovering ships, but it's amazingly fast and intense. Also, they have astounding EDM soundtracks.
XL has Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Future Sound of London, etc.
Wipeout 3 is primarily constructed by Sasha, with other tracks from Paul Van Dyk, Orbital, Chemical Brothers, etc.
Playing on easy is pretty much as slow as tricycles, but each level is exponentially faster and takes getting used to having walls come at you so damn fast.

i know there is also a wipeout on the PSP, and i think PSP was recently added to successful emulation (not sure)

thought GTA3 was fun, but the series lacks the physics to make me cream my pants.

TOCA 3 everyone! best racing game ive played. maybe not the most realistic, but the most realistic + fun. nice balance. get it!

Forza2 is one of the best sims out there.
GTR2, Live for Speed, Richard Burns Rally are also one of the best sims.
