My statements make perfect sense. You build a night playing slower less popular tracks, IE. House, then build into trance, which he played for a good 4+ hours, then bring it down a notch and play more slower tunes towards the end of the night again. What's so wrong with that?

The man spun for like 7 friggin hours (whatever, he played a long-ass time on those decks!). So stop your fucking crying, because the trance that he did play was unfuckingbelievable! And to hear people bitch about some house being played, or 1 or 2 tracks they disliked...

Ummmm, pretty much all the tracks he played were brought out of retirement. And how exactly would you have been disappointed? If there were no trance, no friends, crappy sound, too packed, and the DJ sucked??? well none of that happened... you missed out on probably one of the BEST trance nights to grace this city this year!

Nice try ass, You advertise TRANCE thats what people go for...not to hear 4 hours of house then trance. Funny how i don't see any other TRANCE DJ's play house then trance...they stick to what they are known to do...

+1
I been to all those nights too Kris, and this one blew them all out of the water! Last night was no "typical" MO set!

go read the posters that were plastered all over the guv...THE BEST OF CLASSIC TRANCE!!!!!!!

Then what exactly is Mark Oliver??? A House DJ, or a Trance DJ???Exactly!
So... nice try ass!

I've have the double cd in my hands as we speak, and he played pretty much everything on there. Obviously some people expected more, and that's fine. But Mark Oliver is the DJ, and he has a huge following for his house sound too on a regular saturday night, and the guy played for EVERYONE! Not just you!!!

I'll be the first to admit... I left the main room at like 1:30 for a bit cause I was sick of hearing house... but you don't see me bitching about it.

Posted by Yohan on Jul-30-2007 04:16:

I don't think I heard like half the tunes in the cd last night...

LOL. You do know that many trance djs nowadays dab with house once in a while?

Tiesto, Airwave, SvD, Ferry... Need I go on? LOL

LOL, you're right, I only count "about" half
But there were countless more that weren't on there

LOL, so much nonsense all over this one, has me crying.

Party of the year? CRIBBY the voice of reason in standing up for the advertised trance party!!! I love it.

Honestly morty, if I am going to "the best of trance" cd release party, i don't want to hear more than 50% house...As cribby said, elevate the night with a reasonable mix featuring trance, not a sudden rev of the bpm randomly. (don't even try to tell me that transition was good)
Not trying to continue any arguments, just stating what the reasonable expectation was.

To some other people around here tho...if you want to just argue pointlessly all day, I suggest you find a wife....
eg) Some trance dj's dabble in house????
GOOD point man...Next time I hear a Sander or ferry set I will expect more house than trance....
You want to throw in constant sarcastic remarks to sound knowledgeable, try to have a point.

review:

Horrible dull house party til 1:45 where it turned into a sweat filled slaughterhouse of the advertised tunes.
Best part prior to 1:45 was hearing a good number of people tell MO how bad he sucks when the DJ booth lowered....Sure some people were having fun and praising him as well, but there were so many angry faces waiting for trance....Those comments wiped the grin off MO's face in a hurry tho.

Once things finally picked up, it was nice to hear a lot of those tracks...Can't satisfy everyone tho, and I am sure some favourites were missed. As well everyone may have not liked some of the tracks that were played. Regardless, wasn't bad, and stayed on a good beat. The scorching heat took a toll on most of us tho. As well, the fact that I could not stand the initial house set took me out mentally. ended up leaving a little earlier than expected.

And finally, don't care if it still under 3 years old, helsinki scorching can be played with the classics any time.

When did I say these trance djs play more house than trance?

My point is that some trance have played house tunes in their sets. Some have produced house tunes too.

Also, while Sat night paled in comparison to some of MO's glory days of playing Trance, it was a nice reminder... It was really those nights in 1998/1999 that inspired me to do TA so I'm grateful for any memories of that caliber, lol. k, end /nostalgia

woo old school 1998, i wasn't around then but 2002/2003 trance in guvy was what i considered glory days for trance, and yes last night was pale in comparison even to that. Still good times thou for sure. *awaits the gift*

Very good ass clown. I was there for TRANCE , not some crappy house set i could here from the other two rooms in the guv. Oh and I am pretty sure there were more people there just for the trance.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Jul-30-2007 12:38:

It was TOTA that made this out to be a "Gift"/Trance night when I don't think anyone from Guv suggested it would be. It was a CD release party. I don't see anywhere on the flyer where it even suggests that MO would be playing trance. It says he will be spinning Club Anthems. It makes sense that he would spin trance being the CD is a trance CD but come on...he has 9 hours to kill...he won't be spinning trance all night. He spent the Peak time spinning trance.....that is what should have been expected and that is what he did. Besides....house music is still the big thing in toronto so the DJs will spin what the people want to hear.

WHAT A FUCKING NIGHT!!

Best sober night I've had at Guv in what seems like ages!!

I LOVED all the classic and old trance tunes, made the night so worthwhile attending, along with all teh friends that came out for this event So good.

Hated the last hour or so that was house music. Killed my vibe and wish I coulda just went home then.

But that still cant detract from the night on a whole, so great.

Tunes tunes tunes...

And I quite enjoyed the new Guvvy look. Different, but cool.

I like the stage, its unique... trippy till u realize it moves... at one point i actualy thought to myself "Jesus chris i could swear that wall wasnt that high before" lol

cool different feature. i think the lighting/lazers has gotten better too...

7 or 8 / 10 for this guv night with Mark O!

I agree. 2002-2003 is what I consider teh glory days of trance too, for myself Pett.

agrees w/ the rest of it too... and debating the gift this year... skip it every year for some reason.

if no BS is supposed to happen this year like it did last year w/ sharing the gift night w/ another DJ, ill likely 95% go!

Del...there is no way you were there...cuz I didn't see you and it really wasn't that packed at all.

Anyways...the music was great...the vibe was right

All-an-all...good times! and a great weekend

No matter what others say...Trance (classics) is still too good to dismiss

The real question is, was Mark Olivier (o-liv-e-a) born in France?
