Exactly. I keep saying there is quality trance out there, its just a lot harder to find it. It's just a phase, I hope.

I agree. Trance is not dead. It's actually huge. It's just dead for some people that get burnt out. I'm open to all genres. Music =

Just listen to Sound Field - Technological Terror (or the whole Sound Field album "Audio Surfin"), outstanding trance year 2007.

I don't know, I'm skeptical of this argument, too. Or perhaps it's just that I never seemed to connect with psy like some on this board have in the post-2002 years. One could argue that the enthusiasm of psytrance supporters constitutes a third group alongside the two you describe.

I will check out the recommendation, though.

I wouldn't say this Sound Field album is psytrance. It has a bit of progressive, some tracks are more melodic than others, some have hints of psychedelic but actually they sound more like trance did in the old days. I'm sure persons who only identify with the melodic post-millenium armin/tiesto music would think an Earth Nation record from the early/mid 90s sounds psychedelic or strange, but really that's just trance like a lot of it sounded back then. And the essence of that lives on and is still present in records released as recently as this year. Be sure to check out the last track on the album: "Lifted Higher", it's still my favorite track this year. A slightly slower piece of blissfull trance with a lot of beautiful voices and a sweet little hypnotic melody. But the whole album is great really, there are spacey progressive trance tracks and straight-up banging hypnotic tracks like "Crossbreed".

Mine is not an attempt to say something like "psytrance is where it's at", i've always enjoyed psy, goa, melodic, classic, progressive, more or less equally. A lot of "psytrance supporters" reject melodic trance but listen in their turn to absolute garbage and go nuts over mindless formulaic israeli full-on. That's not me.

The trance world has become a little polarized, melodic fans call their music "trance" and don't consider other trance to be trance. Psytrance people don't consider "trance" to be trance, only "psytrance" is trance so they are careful about not saying that they just like "trance".

I like to say that i'm a trance fan, in general, because i like the essence of the style that can be found in most of its varieties.

Events and producers don't matter if the style isn't doing anything remotely interesting or inspired.

The Ferry examples posted above sound like a bad attempt at trancey pop music plus all of those tracks have a 4/4 dance beat and not the traditional electro rhythm with the exception of Junk.

+1. Getting tired of new genres popping up all the time that have no substantial reason for existing as a separate genre.
